I always try to write alt text, or if i can't describe the image then put "no alt text" in the CW, as a writer it's a very fun exercise
my disagreement isn't that people should write alt text, i just don't think everything should be put on the end user, and it shouldn't be made a moral superiority thing

consider that people have different cognitive abilities, and so what is trivially easy to you can be quite challenging or take a long time for others. there are other circumstances to consider
like for example, someone has a limited break time and wants to upload an image on their phone, personally I just don't even attempt that anymore.
