Listening to the BHN panel discussion, it strikes me that owning a streaming server is like owning a community hall.

Imagine every town had a democratically-managed OwnCast server, as a virtual town hall. Residents of the town can book time on it for public meetings, workshops, or artistic events.

Aha, I didn't know that: So I can paste any URL of an ActivityPub server into the search window on Mastodon, hit the Enter key, and then interact with that one post.
The thing is, many servers now offer solutions that more or less automate this step. Which obviously leads to confusion.

Es halt so, dass viele Server dafür inzwischen Lösungen anbieten, die diesen Schritt mehr oder weniger automatisieren. Was offensichtlich auch zur Verwirrung führt.
