The best example here is the Biden rules on transgender athletes, which gave schools latitude to set their own rules but with specific privacy rules and a need to justify any exclusion of a given trans person. It was sued and blocked not by trans people…

@CppGuy @c0debabe I don't see how the design near the bottom is nonsense? it's a cat with bubbles, Japanese text and English text that's a bit jpeggy after a few rounds of editing and reusing. The artifacts are because there used to be sensible Chinese or Japanese ad copy that's been replaced by the "English"

I looked through the rest of the listing and the "cat" kanji getting replaced by English "cat" pretty clearly confirms imo it''s on-image machine translation

Wenn eine Security-Firma außerhalb des MCU Thor Security heißt, würde ich die aus demselben Grund ablehnen.

"An expansive #heatwave will spread through the central U.S. as summer officially arrives late this week and then into the East, bringing the hottest temperatures of the year and uncomfortably muggy air to the Midwest and Northeast."

Temperatures in the high 90s, plus high humidity.

"Weather service offices throughout the region warned of sweltering and sometimes life-threatening conditions through Wednesday.

Highs will reach around 20 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than usual in parts of the Midwest and in the Northeast."

" “Every #heatwave that is occurring today is hotter than it would have been without human-induced #CimateChange,” she said.

Otto sounded an additional note of caution: Computer models “severely underestimate” the extreme heat trends we are seeing so far, which means projections for future #ExtremeHeat are likely also underestimates."

An interesting article on heat waves caused by climate change. I feel that article has missed one of greatest threats caused by these heatwaves. All that energy is absorbed by the oceans and contributes to severe weather. Imagine for a second how much energy it takes to warm the sea by just 0.1 of a degree? What then happens to all that energy?

@IndyRichard

Great point.
In fact, more than 90% of global warming goes into the oceans (the atmosphere is a very small fraction of the heat capacity of the oceans). The oceans suffer from marine heatwaves, but also they burp up the heat in the shape of, for instance, souped-up hurricanes, extreme rain, etc.

"In Boston, the high temperature Tuesday was 102 degrees.
The high temperature in Providence on Tuesday was 100 -- besting a previous all-time June high of 98 degrees last hit in 1945.

This kind of rare, long-duration heat with little overnight recovery can be life-threatening, especially for people without adequate cooling or hydration available."

It’s not just the cities. Extreme heat is a growing threat to rural America.
"Far outside of downtowns, where homes and buildings get farther and farther apart, rural regions face their own long-running challenges that exacerbate the dangers of extreme heat.

While temperatures out in the sticks may not climb to the same peaks they do in downtowns, urban heat islands are surrounded by an ocean of rural heat vulnerabilities."

It's time for updated rules on housing.

Most places in temperate zones have rules about *minimum* temperatures in housing (so residents don't freeze). Now that needs to be augmented with a *maximum* temperature rule.

Five key threats are examined by the roadmap: overheating, wildfires, flooding, drought and storms."

tengrain at Mock Paper Scissors has the latest Republican plan (As I read him):

Declare citizens, those born in the US, to be no longer citizens, if their parents were born in other countries.

Since these Americans suddenly go from citizen to non-citizen, they can’t be following the rules.

So deport them.

The image depicts a group of firefighters battling a large wildfire. In the foreground, several firefighters are silhouetted against the bright orange and yellow flames. They are wearing dark blue uniforms with reflective yellow stripes, helmets, and breathing apparatuses. The firefighters are actively engaged in their efforts, with some holding a hose and others assisting in the operation. The background is dominated by the intense flames, which are towering and consuming the surrounding vegetation. The scene conveys a sense of urgency and the firefighters' dedication to their task. The text "ΤΟΙΑΘΗΖ POLITISCHIOS.GR" is visible in the bottom right corner, indicating the source of the image.
