Today we celebrate Alan Turing, one of the founders of modern computing, born on this day in 1912.
Turing studied at Princeton, completing his Ph.D. in math in 1938. His research on code-breaking helped to win WWII and he made groundbreaking contributions to AI and machine learning.
Persecuted for being gay, which was then a crime in Great Britain, Turing died in 1954 at the age of 41.
His portrait, by Jordan Sokol, hangs in the atrium of Lewis Library on Princeton's campus.
