European game publisher group responds to Stop Killing Games, claims ‘These proposals would curtail developer choice” byteseu.com/1168163/ #Europe

in reply to Strypey

@strypey Given that the server is an important identifying part of the handle (since users with the same username would appear the same without it) most Fedi clients do not remove the server part of the handle unless the viewer is on the same server. So it isn't a big deal to change the username, I'm frankly just glad to find more news orgs on Fedi.
in reply to Strypey

@strypey I've used several and they usually automatically show or hide the server part of the handle depending on context, which is usually enough.

So even those ones don't always show anything after the second @. But even if you were right that ...

> most Fedi clients do not remove the server part of the handle unless the viewer is on the same server

@index isn't a meaningful handle. The Ghost team clearly intended it as a placeholder. Even just changing it to @news would be better.

Is this really a hill worth dying on?

in reply to Strypey

@strypey Frankly, it's not a hill either of us need to die on because even in the screenshots you gave, you can see that all your clients actually *do* display a server. Take a look :) we're both talking about @ mentions but when it comes to viewing a post, *all five* of the screenshotted clients show the poster's server, which is what matters for following a news source.
At any rate, @ index isn't the best name, so they could change it for *that* reason, as you were saying.

@golemwire
> when it comes to viewing a post, *all five* of the screenshotted clients show the poster's server

Do you mean that when you click on a post, the full @address of its sender is shown? I mean, yes, that's true, in all clients.

It's just totally orthogonal to what I was talking about. Which is how the @address is displayed if an Actor is @mentioned in someone else's post. Which is a big part of how discovery happens in independent media, and how a mention can lead to a subscription.

in reply to Strypey

This is a good suggestion, thank you. We've updated our handle to leicestergazette@leicester.news. It may take some time to change over on some servers.

Dear world,
Please do NOT come to the USA for the World Cup or the Olympics. ICE has already threatened to throw you in a concentration camp if you do.

Do not come to the USA unless and until we get ALL fascists out of government and put all fascist criminals in prison. That's the same thing as telling you to never come here again.

I was today years old when I learned that #Bluesky doesn't actually have a CW tag/spoiler/image blur. Apparently there's just a drop-down menu when you post to say if something contains violence, nudity or porn, and that's it? Why the fuck do people even use this platform?

It's a good thing my crosspost the other day didn't actually contain anything properly lewd...

A day after flooding rains rapidly overwhelmed the Guadalupe River and sent deadly floodwaters through a swath of central Texas, authorities said hundreds of people had been saved from the danger but many remained missing – and the death toll continued to rise.

At least 43 people were killed – 28 adults and 15 children, Sheriff Larry Leitha said. The count was up from 18 adults and nine children earlier in the day Saturday

Dear Friends of the algorithm,

Can you hear it? Do you dance to it? Do it make you dance instead? In other words:

- If we are programmed by DNA Karma, who breaks? The String.
- Every language I know employs silence/space in between. Except ❕ ⁉️
- Patterns in pics are similar information ripe for compression squeezeology. You knew rite?
- Talk is cheep. Silence is herd...

Therefore:
- Choose well
- Liar lyre, pants of fire
- Gasp, better still. Breath out. Space.

To put it another way. We can no longer afford the luxury of Nazi. Billionaires. Aristo influence and chattering classes. We have a planet aka homee to save. 🌏
