Only a conceptual shift will make a real difference. Look around (and inward) to see evidence of this everywhere." The background of the post is dark, and the text is white, making it stand out. mastodon.social/@GoodAaron/114… GoodAaron@mastodon.social - I can confirm PBS Passport is a VERY good deal for $5/month or less if you choose an annual membership.

Thousands of hours of top notch content. 40 seasons of NOVA. Great kids programs. The new Ken Burns doc on Leonardo da Vinci is excellent.

My quest to sell 100 copies of my new album in 100 days is on track to succeed, but there's still a ways to go! I'm currently sitting at 91/100 on day 80, which puts me ahead of "schedule" but still needing a fair few.

Give me a listen & let's go from there

Sales on Ampwall ALSO count toward my goal, of course! Same great album, even cooler artist-friendly platform! And the Ampwall team is super cool, too!

Ether Diver reshared this.

In Rochester, NY, a good-sized crowd marched through downtown this evening as part of the John Lewis Day "Good Trouble" rallies. We met at Parcel 5, where some speakers launched the event. Then we marched via Main Street and State Street to the big John Lewis mural near the Sister Cities garage, where we paused to listen to more speakers. Then we continued via Exchange Street, Broad Street, and South Avenue, back to Parcel 5. I couldn't get a good idea of the size of the crowd, because I am short, and there were a lot of tall people around me. But at one point, when the march made a turn onto another street, I could look from the corner in both directions, and saw that the line of marchers stretched for several blocks both ways.

A follow-up to my post about the Rochester NY "Good Trouble" rally on Thursday evening -

Today's Rochester Democrat & Chronicle had an article about the event, and also a good photo gallery with a few dozen photos of the rally and the march, much better pictures than the few I had taken. Here's the link to the article -

"... advocacy is one of the things that we currently lack within the network and we really need to execute well on, if we want to help bring more people in. The network's growth is kind of dependent on that, and if we don't keep growing, there's some concern that we might not be able to maintain the momentum that we've built up to this point."

I'm all for organic growth, but we don't need it to improve service.

"So I think one of the answers to that could be a collective effort. If we help each other out, and kind of have a combined front as we go out to the outside world."

Bang on. The challenge here is to agree on the nature and the boundaries of this collective identity. Eg Do we promote projects that are technically useful, even if some people associate the lead devs with politics they strongly demand we disassociate from?

But putting the political alignment difficulties aside, this was one of my goals with the Fyre Exyt/ Fire Exit project I dreamed up a few years ago.

web.archive.org/web/2020102321…

To have a narrow group identity that was about maintaining a minimal presence within the DataFarms. Showing people some of the human-respecting software and services they can use instead, and how to get started. Ideally with automated migration tools.
