The last night with Basje, until mum takes him along again. It was a bit of a weird night, where I slept OK for a bit, and then I was wide awake for a short while, until I fell asleep again. Bas was a bit restless too, as every time I was awake and playing with my phone, he would jump off the bed. And every time I put the phone away and tried to sleep some more, he quickly rushed back to the bed.
When I was up and dressed, mum already had her brekky. So we walked with Bas together before mum took him back to Nijmegen. Mum did some grocery shopping there and some chores at the house. The last night with Basje, until mum takes him along again. It was a bit of a weird night, where I slept OK for a bit, and then I was wide awake for a short while, until I fell asleep again. Bas was a bit restless too, as every time I was awake and playing with my phone, he would jump off the bed. And every time I put the phone away and tried to sleep some more, he quickly rushed back to the bed.
When I was up and dressed, mum already had her brekky. So we walked with Bas together before mum took him back to Nijmegen. Mum did some grocery shopping there and some chores at the house. I had brekky and then got my tablet to write a bit for my blog. While I was writing, my friends texted me that they were on their way to me. I had some time to relax a bit after I was done writing, and then they called me. I promised to guide them along the new route that maps didn't know about yet. And then they pulled up tp the parking...
It was quite emotional as my friends entered the house for the first time without being greeted by Arwen. She has known me longer, and she knew some of the dogs that came before Arwen. But he had only known Arwen, and very briefly the other dog we had, Jenny (who stayed with my ex). So yeah, he was really struggling with the house being so empty and not getting all the cuddles before properly entering the home.
We talked a bit about the changes and I showed the urn. Then, I showed the ink paw prints, and he started to cry. So within seconds, we all were sobbing a bit over the big loss. They really loved the urn and understood why mum and I chose this one for her. Then, we started to prepare the spot where I wanted the shelf to go. But as we were measuring, we found out that there were electric wires running though the wall, at the spots where we would have to drill the holes. So, that was out of the question. We decided that it would be best to put Arwen's shelf under the other shelf that was on the other wall. While my friends were preparing it all, I fixed some lunch.
After we had lunch, my friends went to work. The shelf was a little stubborn and didn't want to be straight all the way (although I don't really think the walls are all that straight either...). But with some cleverness, the shelf was up properly enough so that we could get Arwen on it. I put the two sympathy cards next to it, and the little heart shaped box with the small amount of ashes for the pendant in front of them. The shelf will be adjusted a bit more, as the acrylic frame should come in on Monday. And I still need to figure out what to do with the paw prints.
Mum came back from the shopping and my male friend and I helped mum with the bags. OK, I helped with one bag and he did the rest... I lay down on bed to do my exercises. After that, I needed to go out for a walk. My male friend joined me while she stayed behind with my mum.
We had a very nice walk. It was a bit emotional, as this was the first time we walked here, where he could not hold a leash. Usually, when my friends were visiting, he would always want to walk with Arwen... So that was a bit sad for sure... It was warm, with almost 30 degrees, but loads of bits we walked were in the shade, and there was a slight breeze that helped to make it feel a bit cooler. We chatted about the surgery, dealing with the loss of Arwen, how everything going bad all followed up so quickly... It was very nice to chat about it with him, and I think the walk did both of us some good.
When we got back, I went to bed again, to rest my leg and do some other exercises. Mum and my friend were chatting along, and I was mostly listening while trying to focus on doing the exercises right. After a while, it was time to fix some food, so I prepped the fries and snacks. And then, we all got a tad emotional again. As my male friend did the same thing that I did, the first time mum and me had fries and snacks after Arwen's passing...
The snacks, called frikandellen, are like sausages of some sort, with two endings. We always called those "kontjes", which translates to the "asses" of the snack. As long as Arwen had been with us, she always got those asses of the snacks. So, like I had done before, he cut off the asses of the snack and then he realized what he had done... I saw him doing it before he realized and was already holding back tears. But then he realized and we all teared up. I told him that I had done exactly the same thing the first time we had snacks as well.
After we had finished dinner, my friends drove back home again. Mum and I settled in to watch some more Twin Peaks. And some parts of the second season are boring/bad as hell, and then it "works" a bit again, and then it gets bad again... I thought there were something like 12 episodes to the season, but there are a "few" more. Mum wants to know how it will end, so we do our best to keep going... I hope it will be worth it, haha.
Around 23, we went to bed. I had a bad night. First, I was sweating so much that I thought I had a fever, but my temperature was lower than it had been for a while. But due to the heat and sweating, I was itching all over. Then, I finally cooled down a bit so I tried to sleep some more. Only for one very annoying terrorist to keep buzzing around my head, every time when I almost dozed off to sleep. So I didn't get enough sleep, and in the end I just got up. I did manage to capture the mosquito and mum could kill it then when she was up. I set everything ready for mum, then I had brekky. And when mum got up, and she had killed the buzzing terrorist, she was able to start her brekky right away.
I had wanted to game with a friend today, but I felt so tired, that I asked her if we could maybe game tomorrow, when mum is off to Nijmegen for a bit... Let's see if I can make it through today...
