Yeah, I'm not even a little bit surprised. But I'm glad this is being studied. I think if they doubled bike infrasturcute, the share of trips by bike would more than double, and space would still be disproportionately allocated to cars. One of the problems I've seen involves not so much the amount but the inter-connectedness of bike lanes. I lived in a neighborhood where I could get almost all the way to a shopping center on a protected, bicycle-dedicated path, but once I got nearly there, I had to pass under a highway in traffic on a busy, 6-lane road that people flew down at very fast speeds. No way I'm bringing a kid on that trip. But just a couple hundred more meters of bike lane connecting the shopping center with the existing path and it would have been a safe and easy trip.

The Pope, to US bishops : tell trump to fuck off, you have to fight him, as he is bringing death and despair.

The US bishops : ok, we'll join him in one of his death march.

This could be a Phoebe and Joey meme 😩

Minimalistic #html and #css only (absolutely no js) - language switcher for simple websites.

Had a hard time finding a simple way to do this, so now i am sharing my version.

I recommend avoiding using CSS to do this. I know that no-JS seems like a noble goal, but using CSS to do this is worse for accessibility reasons (see: adrianroselli.com/2023/03/css-…). Out-of-the-box form controls like radios don’t initiate a change without the associated form being submitted, so that’s unexpected. Yes, lots of people use them this way, however, if you do then you should use a live region to notify assistive technology users that something has changed. That’s not something you can do with CSS, so to do this correctly on the client-side only, you need JavaScript.

How can you do this without JS? Either use an HTML form and use the server to change the language or, simpler, use a link to a separate, localized URL.

Today in mailers I received news, I received an advertising mailer for my apartment building. The place I am currently living.

Keir Starmer has announced that the UK’s first small modular nuclear reactors will be built in north Wales
– and immediately faced a backlash from the Trump administration which pushed for a US manufacturer to be chosen.

Wylfa on the island of Anglesey, or Ynys Môn, will be home to three small modular reactors (SMRs)
to be built by British manufacturer Rolls-Royce SMR.
The government said it will invest £2.5bn.
SMRs are a new – and untested – technology
aiming to produce nuclear power stations in factories to drive down costs and speed up installation.
Rolls-Royce plans to build reactors, each capable of generating 470 megawatts of power, mainly in Derby

Interesting! I knew about French & US companies testing SMRs, but didn’t know Rolls Royce had entered the field.

Thank you for writing this. As someone who also lives in a very red state, I think about this question a lot, and I rather agree with you. "Love your neighbor" sounds nice, but it must not mean empowering him to harm others, or it is unloving to those others. It must include boundaries and caution. Claiming that it doesn't is a tool of abusive Christians.

Oh, no way that is cool! I will definitely start looking to see if I hear from them about mine.
in reply to The Witchy Bitches

I had this weekend marked as the probable shipping time in my calendar, but I did squeal a little when the email came in.

Last year's was so awesome. I really enjoyed opening it every morning while I had my coffee. Waiting until 1 December is hard, but it is really fun to do up until solstice.
