their is a lot of fear around failure.

i know.
i write as much as i can.
and its difficult.

its worse, i think

to live,
never knowing a bruise.

or seeing a typo, you never noticed
till you see it, glaring, their

on a page... weeks later...

mushroom tin, my bedside cup.
olive tin, to hold my pencils up.
chile tin, handy divider.
bean tin, to keep things from falling over.
and an old coffee tin, to keep a few things in.
and another, pierced, to have a fire in.
and another, for a bit of sand to put the fire out...

Sometimes I just send Mom a message that says "look at the Moon" or "look at the sunset" or just "look at the sky" And sometimes send that kind of message to me. I sent her a message just now "look at the moon" and she said "thank you for telling me" and I said "I will always let you know about the moon." And then I tried to write a poem because I thought that sentence was so nice. I don't think it's a very good poem. But poems take time. Maybe it will become good.

Okay well this is it so far. But I will probably change it all tomorrow:

I will always let you know about the moon

Look at the moon
Can you see the moon from where you are?
I’m walking at dusk and I’m feeling lonely
My kid used to like walking with me
I could talk to him about this perfect moon
Its haunted white-gold glow
An illuminated balloon looming over the hills
But he’s too old to go for walks with his mom
So I send you a message that says
Look at the moon

You say thank you for letting me know about the moon
Mom, I will always tell you about the moon
Because maybe some day I’ll go for a walk
And pull my phone out of my pocket
And then I’ll remember
So instead I will have to just whisper
Look at the moon
Can you see the moon where you are?
Will you find a way to let me know about the moon?

And if I’m very lucky
Maybe one day my kid will
Be walking lonely somewhere
And look at the night sky
And think about me
And send me a message

Our mind, the enemy of magic, they say. Yet, I mind the fairy lights in a vespertine sky. Yet, the sleigh bells ringing in the night matter to me. Aged packages unopened, I choose to pull the ribbon.

Oh bah dat is zooo vermoeiend. Sterkte en hopelijk houdt je brein zich wat rustiger hierna. En ik hoop dat je de dingen die zo’n onrust veroorzaken snel weg kan tikken. 🍀☕️

New paper: Moral Universality and Its Discontents.
👉 doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1783777…
Argument in brief: virtue ethics, deontology, consequentialism & contractualism all rely on a stability in moral vocabulary that simply doesn’t exist. Instead of universal laws, we have context-bound heuristics. If language won’t hold the theory, the theory must yield.

I wrote this while waiting for a train in Sacramento early in the morning. It was just one of those special moments:

Glass, concrete, and steel
Incessant lines seeking reprieve
The white noise flows, distant
Pervasive, pensive
Birds flock to these towers
Just like any other
Murmurations weaving through it all
Celebrating the dawn with us
The train's horn has its own rhythm
Its road hums with me as dawn breaks
Its people come and go
But you are always with me
Light of my heart

Not sure if this is a scam but I got an email from Four Seasons Total Landscaping saying I’m shortlisted for their Peace Prize.

Waiting for the End of the World by Richard Ross, 2004

Where will you go when the trouble starts? For countless people around the world, the answer is that bomb shelter down in the basement. In fact, people from around the work have been building shelters to protect themselves from catastrophe -- natural disaster, war, nuclear events -- for centuries.
