Iraanse Nobelprijswinnaar en mensenrechtenactivist Narges Mohammadi opnieuw opgepakt volkskrant.nl/buitenland/iraan…

Do I know anyone at GitHub? I have an enterprise tech support ticket that keeps being autoclosed without a response or explanation, and would truly appreciate having a human glance at it.

A vacant house of "Al-Khalidi" family collapsed near the Ship Building, west of Gaza City, due to heavy rains and previous Israeli raids on the area.

So far, only one child has been rescued by the first responders who are working hard to locate and find those stuck under tons of rubble with their bare hands.

If I look on the map I feel how strange it is that the Iberian peninsula is so completely disconnected.

Coconut and matcha together tastes kind of like fish. I'm confused.
in reply to May Likes Toronto

Some green teas taste a bit fishy to me (I enjoy green tea, including matcha) so maybe the sweetness of the coconut brings out more of the astringency from the tea and it registers as “fish” in the brain.

En hiermee wil de fatsoenlijke Bontenbal überhaupt praten .. come on Rob Jetten . Dat gaat toch niet gebeuren @d66

So why are NHS leaders and the newspapers sounding the alarm? Well, the NHS never copes well in winter and this year is no exception. Also, I imagine they want to put pressure on doctors not to strike. 8/10

One more from the apple tree.

An owl, just kinda sitting there on the ground rotating its head until it suddenly decides to swoop straight at the camera.

First owl we've seen around here. Not sure which kind it is.

Hidden Camera Build Proves You Can’t Trust Walnuts

Typically, if you happened across a walnut lying about, you might consider eating it or throwing it to a friendly squirrel. However, as [Penguin DIY] demonstrates, it’s perfectly possible to …read more

I hate default line length limits in linters. it's 2026, I'm not coding on a fucking VT100.
in reply to Graham Sutherland / Polynomial

I deal with code bases written by different teams with different conventions on a daily basis and I believe a limit on line length is useful but I’ve no idea what a good all-around number it should be.

Horizontal scrollbars are the fucking worst™️ when working with code.

Wrap-around is my goto but in more occasions I liked to deal with I had to check line numbers to figure out if something was wrapping around or not.

In a Ruby shop I worked with for a few years we had a 120 characters limit set company wide and it was mostly ok.

I personally enjoy a shorter line length for personallprojects because it helps me focus on what I’m doing.

@sid77
The default in TeX comes from some actual research into the ability to follow long lines (and, in particular, to correctly move your eyes from the end of one to the next while reading). It is 66 non-white space characters per line, which typically works out to be pretty close to the 80-column limit unless you have a lot of indenting.

I would love for someone to rerun that research with modern eye tracking technology and on non-prose corpora, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the number remains close to 66.
