I once took a metallurgy course from a professor who sometimes reminisced about his life experiences. When he was a college student, he had a part-time job as an assistant coach.
His job was to continually move around the field, feeling the ear lobes of the players to be sure they weren't frozen.
I learned a lot about theoretical and applied metallurgy, plus other important stuff. Such as, that I'm not tough enough to be a Canadian.
