I present for your consideration, Dahlia imperialis “Netty Mink”. Seems my double white got busy with the single pinks, and no one was more surprised than I! Netty Mink is Boontling for “frilly girl,” and we are deep in Boontling territory. allforgardening.com/1538121/i-… #dahlias

My mom took this picture as we were driving up out of the foggy valley into sunlight.

I told her to take it so I get at least 50% credit, right?

I regret to inform that even Cookie Monster has given into the relentless cultural pressure to monetise one’s passions

I used to really enjoy visiting the US and have visited by plane, train & car many, many times. I've done a road trip Montreal to Flagstaff, mostly via Route 66. I've spent lots of time in places like Philadelphia, DC, Chicago, Seattle, Vegas, SF, NO, LA & NY, with many repeated trips to specific places and events across the whole country. I even considered moving to the US for a while... but I have no intention of setting foot in the US ever again. For real.

On November 17, a young man named August left a facility he was taken to for help.

August is autistic, non-verbal and vulnerable.

He was found two days ago, after being lost for 24 days. His mom specifically thanked the homeless community:

“I owe a special debt to the homeless men and women of this city, whose vigilance, kindness, and relentless search for August humbled me," Lori Beckwith wrote. "Some of the most profound generosity came from those with the least to give.

“To the person — or people — who gave him layers of warm clothing, boots, and food: You kept him alive. I will never forget it."

Having served the homeless here in SLC, and witnessing service to them for decades, I have to say I am not surprised at their kindheartedness.

Like any other class or group, they're not all kind-hearted, but the entire class can't be judged for that. A homeless person:

-- smashed windows of my car in broad daylight to steal toilet paper, a flat of Dr. Pepper (which they didn't take because it wasn't alcoholic as they'd hoped), a jacket, and a tent;

-- attacked a female coworker in a crosswalk without provocation, punching her squarely in the face.

Those specific people I don't want to thank for their service.

@VulcanTourist "the entire class can't be judged for that"

But you're going to judge them anyway. How illogical.

in reply to VulcanTourist

@VulcanTourist Seriously, what do you want people to do if they can't afford hygiene basics like toilet paper?
in reply to VulcanTourist

@VulcanTourist
It seems to me from your toot that you found these two incidents traumatic. I can understand that.

I think that it would have been better if you had started a new discussion rather than replying to a positive story about homeless people.

Why do people become #homeless?

The main reason is that #billionaires rig our economies so that there is insufficient money allocated to social housing and welfare programs.

Thus anyone can become vulnerable and then homeless.

i am agog that Newsom actually said out loud that he never really thought about affordability until he talked to a streamer who wouldn't let it go.

Is that $6bn valuation from before or after their boss freaked everybody out by throwing a tantrum when lobbed a softball question by a friendly interviewer?
