Helpful description of a lesser-known condition that can co-occur with autism: aphantasia.

Aphantasia is an inability to visualize mental images. When someone with aphantasia tries to visualize an apple, a loved one's face, or a childhood memory, they experience no mental pictures.

Instead of mental pictures, their mind works with facts, concepts, and knowledge.

“When the Words Go: AAC [augmentative and alternative communication] and Speech Apps for Autistic Adults Who Lose Speech

You speak fine most days. Then the sentence forms, and it does not arrive. There is a name for that, and there are tools built for it that nobody told you were yours to use.“

Od X godzin wysyłam do mamy, ale nie odpowiada, próbowałam zadzwonić, ale też nie...

A najgorsze jest to, że jestem ASP śmieciem co nie umie reagować w takich sytuacjach 😬

I have struggled most of my life to understand what I feel and what I want, but oddly I am hyper aware of the things I DON'T want.

I've been working on updating a decision making process in a #coop from #voting to #consensus inspired by #ietf #decisionMaking process when a colleague made me realize that consensus process is not compatible with many #neurodivergent cognitive styles. It disproportionately favors #Neurotypicals and extraverted ppl while putting more introverted and less verbal type people at a disadvantage. Also it's yet another "social capital" dominated decision making process. Less social capital - less likely you'll actually speak up against the crowd.

The "no one left behind" goal is not fulfilled by the "no loud opposition" decision process. What process does that? We're staying with the simplistic voting for now but adding a prolonged debate. Any ideas? How other #cooperatives do that? Especially #anarchist ones?

Just a periodic boost for The Autistic Innovator. It's a stim toy store by and for neurodivergent people. Some of the toys you won't find elsewhere, like the firm but spongy "chewlery". If you tend to bite as part of your autism, this might really help. I have one of the necklaces and can answer your questions as a customer if you have any. autisticinnovator.com/

More real people have been visiting my site from search engines. Most everyone who lands on a collection page, it takes them roughly 3 minutes on average to look at all 48 products on the page, which is essentially looking at every photo for 4 or 5 seconds each. That's what I was going for with my product photo art. 🙂

DSM support needs criteria *only* includes social communication and restricted, repetitive behaviors.

There are a non-trivial amount of undiagnosed or self-diagnosed autistic people who meet the criteria for "medium support needs".

There are a non-trivial amount of "low support needs" diagnosed people who have higher actual support needs than some "medium support needs" people.

You do not know if a stranger on the internet is low support needs.

Not every diagnosis includes a support needs level.

Psychologists are not very accurate with diagnosis, but are very sexist with diagnosis.

The DSM criteria for "support needs" only represent very stereotypical, externally visible traits and comorbidities.
