Much of the sky is covered in a dense but soft bank of cloud which is reflected in a sliver of a stream stretching from the bottom of the frame and disappearing from view as it reaches the middle of the picture. Hints of blue peep through the clouds. The weather is calm as is the late afternoon light. On the horizon are rows of houses on either bank. A rice field (harvested) can just be seen on the left, but the chief interest are the tall beige grasses which cover each bank and invite this viewer the brush their hand over the scene and delight in its feathery glow.

Wieder die niederschmetternde Nachricht: im Zoo Leipzig sind 7 Krauskopfpelikane getötet worden! Wegen der aviären Influenza (Vogelgrippe) tötet der Zoo Leipzig alle von ihm gefangen gehaltenen Krauskopfpelikane. Dabei gibt es schon länger eine Impfung gegen die Vogelgrippe. Einige Zoos haben bereits eine Sondergenehmigung erhalten um die Vögel, die hier zur Belustigung der Massen auf viel zu kleinem Raum eingesperrt werden, zu impfen. Europaweit galt früher ein Impfverbot. Der legalisierte Handel mit exotischen Vögeln wurde als Grund genannt. Impfungen retten Leben. Auch Tierleben. Aber es geht hier nicht um das Leben der Tiere. Nicht um ihre sozialen Gefüge in denen sie agieren, nicht um die Pelikane als Individuen die Freude, Spaß, Trauer, Angst empfinden. Sondern um Tiere als Produkt für den Menschen. Zum Anschauen, zum Lachen, zum Staunen.
Während der Tötung der Krauskopfpelikane läuft der Zoo-Betrieb weiter. Minimale Schutzmaßnahmen wie Schuhe säubern vor den Häusern soll die Ausbreitung der Vogelgrippe verhindern. Dabei funktioniert wirklich sinnvoller Schutz nicht über saubere Schuhe oder desinfizierte Hände, sondern nur durch ein Ende der Ausbeutung der Vögel – egal ob im Zoo, oder der Tierindustrie, sowie das Ende der kapitalistischen Naturzerstörung. Denn der eigentliche Ursprungsort der aviären Influenza ist die industrielle Ausbeutung von Vögeln. Wenn abertausende Enten, Gänse und Hühner auf engstem Raum gehalten und teils zusammengeführt werden mutieren hier verschiedene Erreger zu sogenannten Supererregern. Der Tod von Wildvögeln ist ein "Kollateralschaden" der Tierindustrie.
Die Lebensräume der Vögel schrumpfen durch Menschenhand. Die Klimakrise führt zu massenhaftem Sterben. Die sowieso schon sehr bedrohten Wildvögel werden drastisch dahingerafft. Auch Marder, Füchse, Bären oder Robben sterben mittlerweile an der Vogelgrippe. Pelikane, Enten, Reiher und alle anderen Tiere brauchen intakte Ökosysteme. Sie wollen nicht im Zoo eingesperrt werden, der willkürlich über ihr Leben und ihren Tod entscheidet. Dass der Zoo Leipzig die Krauskopfpelikane "vorsichtshalber" alle getötet hat ist ein Skandal. Einer von vielen in diversen Zoos. Zoos sind keine Biodiversitätswunder der Arterhaltung sondern ein Gefängnis für Tiere. Wir sind erschüttert wie normal und rationalisiert von der Tötung von Lebewesen berichtet wird. Zoos und die Tierindustrie gehören abgeschafft! #EndZoos #artgerechtistnurdiefreiheit #vogelgrippe
