"This is not a story about how doctors are bad and pills are evil. I believe in medicine, and there is a good place for Xanax when used properly. But I didn’t use it properly." —Martha McPhee for Vogue Magazine

“London Eye” — Looking upwards at the London Eye on a cloudy day.

I usually have a good sense of direction, and I can often navigate without maps. But I also have an occasional directional problem. When arriving in a new place I sometimes make an incorrect assumption about the compass directions. Once I do, it is darned near impossible for me to fix it. London is one of the places. For some reason, the first time I visited I reversed north and south, and I’ve struggled since then to get it right. I’ve gotten a lot better — when I look north across the River Thames these days it looks like it is north. But this photograph came about due to the residue of my prior confusion…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2024/09/06/lo…

No! If there's one Rep. who needs to be gone, it's LAUREN BOEBERT!

"The open seat in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District also moved from “lean” to “likely” Republican. Conservative firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert (R), who holds the seat, is running this cycle for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District instead."

I may not have as much talent (yet?) as the rest of the #BandcampFriday folks, so definitely go support them, but I did recently upload my first song on the site, which you can download for free.

@PublicWolf You're too kind! I only started making music about three years ago, and still have plenty to learn. But it's been fun!

Are there other studies about how many journals are requiring data? I came across this one from 2020 (2017) data, but I'm wondering if there are any other studies / metrics available...

The Open Access Tracking Project (#oatp, @oatp) tracks these with the tag "oa.policies.journals.data". So far we've found 200 (examples and discussions), but there must be more.

4+ years ago the #OpenAccessDirectory started a list of them. But it's still under development and needs volunteers to beef it up, for example, from the OATP.

There's no template for these kinds of policies. Someone would have to review and compare them to see trends in the kinds of data they do and don't cover — somewhat like the 2020 article at the top of this thread.

For the #NFL fans out here: nfl.community is a Lemmy instance for American Football, with communities for general news and talk (@nfl) and each of the teams. It would be amazing to get the Fediverse more involved.

I’d love to see more integration here. Lemmy is awesome. In particular i think it’d be great to connect the ability to view and contribute to lemmy communities from Flipboard. Interested in ideas you have here. Cc’ing @emilynguyen @greg and @JsonCulverhouse
in reply to Mike McCue

The first step for integration with Lemmy would be to implement github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issu…

I didn't mention flipboard exclusively, but the way I see it we could have moderators of Lemmy communities that set it to auto-track curated that type of integration could make comments/"flips" visible on Lemmy and interactions from the Lemmy side would lead to reactions on flipboard.

Powerful account of the costs of SLAPP suits, from legal fees to insurance spikes to lost time to reputational harm. Charles Ornstein even lost out on a mortgage.

All states and the fed gov should pass anti-SLAPP laws. Those that have should strengthen them.

HONEY MOON. The first month after marriage. A poor honey; a harmless, foolish, goodnatured fellow. It is all honey or a t--d with them; said of persons who are either in the extremity of friendship or enmity, either kissing or fighting.
