Read the original investigation into the Garrison School, where police were being called on students every other day in recent years, here:

The experiences described in this article are well known to the parents of children born with brain disorders that come with behavioral symptoms. It is hard for me to not react with vitriol to the stories of what these children endure at the hands of willfully ignorant adults.

This school is either in Sing Sing, or it needs a whole new administration. Calling police every other day to deal with errant students is militarizing the school, costing taxpayers a bundle, and running away from the job of being educators. Btw, it's terrible for students.
in reply to ProPublica

Okay, I don’t know exactly what was happening in those specific situations, but it seems to me like “noncompliance,” disruption,” & “inappropriate language” are things to be reasonably expected of many kids in most high school classrooms; & hardly something a trained & competent teacher should need or want to call the cops over.

The best guide to Trump’s economic plan, such as it is, is still Project 2025’s Mandate for Leadership. Trump has attempted to disavow it, but 140 members of his administration helped assemble it.

My move over to Mastodon two years ago fizzled out, so a #reintroduction is probably in order. I'm an #actuallyautistic public librarian living in Minnesota, still working through the imposter syndrome after earning my MLIS. I love to read and write, though I'm easily distracted by fountain pens, new notebooks, and typewriters. There's a soft spot in my heart for vintage aesthetics and retro tech.

I also have a dog that believes he's the center of the universe. For all I know, he's right.

Hey welcome back! 👋

Lovely to see the dog, and he's quite right in his beliefs!

The Price of Survival is not my usual story, but I am so glad I wrote it. Exploring societal trauma and survival from three different perspectives, it gave me a chance to dig into some ideas I don't usually get a chance to play with.

If you enjoy stories of trauma survivors doing their best int he face of disaster, you might enjoy The Price of Survival, available now in ebook for $2.99 on Smashwords and other etailers.
