Hmph.
Netscape was killed by capitalism. Now it looks as though Mozilla is offering up Firefox to the Fates on the sacrificial altar of artificial intelligence...

Doing some cleanup. Can't be quite sure if this was my wife or my child's work:

When writing alt texts, consider you are not only doing accessibility a favour but also providing volunteer work for AI businesses scraping the web for training data.

I came into the thread to say how much I enjoyed your #AltText and saw this comment and had an Aha! moment. I hadn't thought of this. Thanks for this insight and reminder.

I'm tempted to make a small pen & paper puzzle game for #fedijam!

The theme is "Up in the clouds", so I'm thinking cloud fornations, weather phenomena, umbrellas, planes/birds!

What'd be really helpful is a tool that'd assist me in creating these – I'd place down contraints, and the tool would auto-solve everything that follows from it. Are there any #puzzle creators here who know a tool like that? #gamedev

First potato harvest from our roof garden! ❤ Definitely wanna do more of that next year!

No word in this article that splitting water into oxygen and hydrogen costs just as much energy as the resulting hydrogen could potentially produce (ignoring the unavoidable losses in the process).

In my opinion, using energy to remove CO2 is the equivalent of a perpetual mobilum. To produce energy we burn fossil fuel, which releases CO2, which is the actual power source, and then we use the energy to recapture CO2, and we are back to square one again.

Oh, you say, we use green energy for that? Well, this means that we can not use this green energy for other purposes, so somewhere someone is going to burn fossil fuels to make up for the lack of green energy…

In the end, we are producing CO2 to remove CO2… It is a scam, designed to mislead ignorant politicians into handing out subsidies. Or maybe the politicians are not that ignorant but want to make the voters believe that they are working on the problem…

The USA’s NSA now has a podcast called “No Such Podcast”

The USA NSA logo with the title above stating NO SUCH PODCAST, and below it, The official NSA podcast
Quite an apt title, and I’m sure no secrets are going to be exposed, apart from those already that have leaked out. But interesting to see some PR from the agency.

They state this about the podcast:

“No Such Podcast” will bring people to the table from across the agency to discuss our role as a combat support agency, our foreign signals intelligence and cybersecurity missions, and so much more. NSA is known as home to the world’s greatest codemakers and codebreakers—their stories are now being decoded.

You can subscribe to it from most podcast players (which means you don’t have to visit their site and expose your IP address and other metadata). Just search for the title in your own podcast player.

Thanks for the information! I have subscribed.

If there's a black helicopter hovering over my house tomorrow, I'm blaming you.

Now that Mozilla Firefox is adding AI directly to its browser, are there any browsers without AI or LLM? I don't want anything to do with the current LLM and AI, which I strongly believe stealing from artists, and all AI companies are freeloaders. It is a bit disappointing to see open-source software adopting something like this. blog.mozilla.org/en/products/f…

Tried Waterfox, but 1Password Integration is not fully supported and 1Password doesn’t have plans. If anyone knows PW-Manager with same Security&Usability, I would be glad to hear.

You don’t need to downplay Iran’s crimes to criticise Israel.

It’s not apartheid, but Iran does has a supremacist politics towards ethnic and religious minorities such as Kurds. Iran is occupying parts of Syria to prop up Bashar al Assad. Iran crushed its environmental movement. Iran absolutely murders journalists and was an accessory to Assad’s chemical massacres in Syria. Iran did murder children in Syria. Iran has been involved in ethnic cleansing in Syria. mastodon.social/@rzeta0/113097…

in reply to Elia Ayoub (he/him)

@mattjhodgkinson @rzeta0 I’m not sure you’re right about apartheid. I understood that all kinds of (ancient) regional religions were being forced to migrate to Israel for relative tolerance in recent decades?
