@moira So far, I think it would be hard to argue against this Supreme Court being the most biased, corrupt, and compromised court in the history of our country.

I aim to release the TROMhome project this next week. Finished the website. Created a new Peertube channel, and a draft for the fundraiser. Hope to also make a video about it. And yeah let's do it :D - we do not have enough money for it all, but close to that. We shall start to make videos starting this next week. We will share the links these days :)

How #Roberts Shaped #Trump’s #SCOTUS Winning Streak

Behind the scenes, the #ChiefJustice molded 3 momentous #Jan6 & #election cases that helped determine the fmr president’s fate.

Last Feb, Chief Justice #JohnRoberts sent his 8 #SupremeCourt colleagues a confidential memo that radiated frustration & certainty.

That left #ChiefJustice #JohnRoberts in control of the outcome. He LINGERED over the choice…. Ultimately, he sided w/the 4 conservatives in an opinion that he wrote but that was issued unsigned. Justice #AmyConeyBarrett & the 3 #liberals wrote concurrences saying the majority had gone TOO FAR.

The case w/the potential to undermine charges against #Trump, spurred behind-the-scenes footwork by the justices, incl the mysterious reassignment of a majority opinion.

#FischervUnitedStates, posed the question: Had prosecutors overreached in charging some #Jan6 *rioters* under a #law originally aimed at white-collar crime? Of the ~1,500 people who had been indicted in the Capitol attack as of June, when Fischer was decided, ~250 cases included a charge of #obstructing an official proceeding.

Will #AI will follow the trajectory of #Wikipedia?
* In its infancy, unreliable & famous for its unreliability.
* In its adolescence, steadily improving in quality, including the practice of citing real, relevant sources for important claims.
* In its maturity, respected for reliability, w/ occasional embarrassing exceptions. Most people with high standards are happy to read a Wikipedia article for an intro to a topic new to them.

I'm wondering. AI could but needn't follow this path.

As someone who worried about the epistemology of Wikipedia 15 years ago and worries about AI now, I think there are some important differences. fecundity.com/job/paper.php?it…

@tchambers Wikipedia is grounded in source citations — and imperfectly but rigorously curated & composed by human beings — so it is a completely different animal
GenAI is the opposite — it obscures its sources, and has no conscious mind(s) at work — it’s just a combo woodchipper & particle-board spewer. Regurgitates an arbitrary blend of words that only smell like truth with no citations or accountability

Every weekday, and once on the weekend, I post my "Cornerstone of democracy" newsletter -- a compendium of the best reporting and commentary surrounding the pivotal 2024 elections in the United States.

No horse race coverage or "both sides" BS that passes so often for political journalism. I post links, with brief commentary, to work that I believe advances the conversation we must be having about America's – and the world's – future.

nothing new here, but he should be designated as a sponsor of misinformation and a liar who like trump spreads these lies to improve his & trump's positions in the way they want America to become.

The Israeli military is recruiting African asylum seekers who join the army to fight in Gaza by promising them assistance in obtaining permanent residency status in Israel, Haaretz reported on 15 September.

Defense officials speaking off the record to the liberal Israeli newspaper said the "project is conducted in an organized manner, with the guidance of defense establishment legal advisers."

Israel is recruiting African refugees for "life-threatening" operations in Gaza... Israel's level can always go even lower.

A successful genocide requires dehumanization of the victims to overcome any qualms of conscience on the part of the perpetrators and to numb the watching world.

As Israel seeks to finish its long war against the Palestinians of Gaza, it has spewed tropes of dehumanization at a fever pitch.

But the Palestinians in Gaza have doggedly resisted this even as they have been treated worse than animals.

#Linux 6.11 is out:

lore.kernel.org/lkml/CAHk-=whV…

'"I'm once again on the road and not in my normal timezone, but it's Sunday afternoon here in Vienna, and 6.11 is out.

The last week was actually pretty quiet and calm, which is nice to see. […]

Anyway, with this, the merge window will obviously open tomorrow, and I already have 40+ pull requests pending. That said, exactly _because_ I'm on the road, it will probably be a fairly slow start […] please be patient."'

2/ And now #Linux 6.11 is available via the frontpage of kernel.org as signed archive and patch[1], too.

For a list of new features see the LWN merge-window summaries (lwn.net/Articles/982034/ and lwn.net/Articles/982605/) as well as its short release announcement: lwn.net/Articles/990307/

The kernelnewbies page as of now just links to LWN, too. (kernelnewbies.org/Linux_6.11 )

[edit] [1] if you still use patches, consider switching to git, it's worth it! [/edit]
