As always, we’ve got you covered with complete coverage of tonight’s VP debate. We’re looking forward to watching Coach Walz tell the American people why we can count on Kamala Harris and Democrats to fight for us and our families! It’s time to move on from Trump (and his MAGA minion JD Vance).

In order to improve my fresh #pixelart skills I'm going to try my hand at #hartoween

👉 social.horrorhub.club/@stina_m…

Can't promise I'll be able to do everything on the day its due, and that I'll have the energy to keep up with it throughout the month, but it's worth a try at least.

Personal rules: 128x128px (but exported at 200%), trying to stick to the ENDESGA64 palette as much as I can.

So, here's day 1: Pumpkin

#hARToween Day 23: Trick Or Treat

We are returning to the place of Day 3 here, but this time there's not a child dressed up as a ghost trying to get some candy but... someone else 🤭 Who says that only human children enjoy going trick-or-treating? 😉

#hARToween Day 24: Nightmare

Yikes, I think that was so far the longest work 😅 First thought was a pixelart version of "The Nightmare" by Henry Fuseli, but that didn't work with the aspect ratio. So I decided to try a more modern version. Not happy with the background, feels not detailed enough, but I think I at least managed to rescue it a bit with adding the bookshelf and lamp.

#hARToween Day 25: Headless

I was SO tempted to just draw a terminal with an SSH shell opened (headless server) but then I figured I'd rather try my hand at an homage to the movie poster of Sleepy Hollow, because that's frankly the actual thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word "headless" in a non-admin context.

Three colors only this time. And I have to say, I surprised myself with that one, I did NOT expect that I'd be happy with this one, but I am very much!

#hARToween Day 26: Horror Movie

I decided to go with one my favourite horror movies here, which I sadly so far never saw in the cinema.

The palette is really working against me in these darker settings, would love to have some darker colors as well 😅

*edit* in a video call at the same time, forgot the alt text 🙈

#hARToween Day 8: Stormy Night (backlog)

I decided to go with a thunderstorm at night seen through a window... First time I tried my hand at lightning, actually kinda happy with how that turned out.

No timelapse for these catch-up ones now as that's saving on time while working through the backlog 😅

#hARToween Day 9: Sinister Shadow (backlog)

I thought long and hard about this, but frankly this was the best I could come up with that I felt like I could pull it off 🙈

Once more, no timelapse, trying to get through the backlog here.

Got halfway through Day 10: Devil/Demon but then couldn't make up my mind of what to do with the rest of the scene, so that will have to wait until the morning. But at least 3.5 done in one sitting, nice work on the backlog ^^ Good night!

#hARToween Day 10: Devil/Demon (backlog)

Not happy with the ground, but couldn't figure out how to add details without making it look extremely weird.

Perfection is the enemy of done, so here we go.

Looks rad! I wish there was an old school video game with this image in it, lol.

I'm also into game development and doing your challenge is my approach to getting better at pixelart for that, so who knows, it might yet happen 😂

#hARToween Day 27: Seance

I think I overdid it yesterday, drawing almost 4 of these, and this is why this one looks quite boring 😅

And I also managed to forget starting the timelapse 🙈

#hARToween Day 28: Cryptid Creature

And of course, I chose Nessie 😊 That was probably the first cryptid creature I ever heard the stories about, so obviously it has a special place in my heart.

#hARToween Day 29: Scary Story

Kinda exhausted from the day and just waiting for dinner to show up, so the original idea of having some kids sit around a fire with one holding a flashlight to their face got reduced to just the flashlight to the face 😅

#hARToween Day 30: Graveyard

Wanted to do this not already completely exhausted from work, so an early post...

I figured, an old graveyard on a hill with a look out to sea would be something nice that's not the usual "spooky graveyard at night, possibly with zombies and vampires" that immediately came to my mind when I first saw the prompt.

#pixelart #aseprite

#hARToween Day 31: Free Draw!

Today allows me to choose my own prompt, so I went with "Spooky Castle" because that sounded like a fun thing to draw.

And here it is. You may decide yourself on whether there's a vampire living there or a crazy scientist. In any case, I tried my hand at some fog and I think that worked well ^^

I still have to do Day 20 (Dark Garden) and Day 21 (Spooky Swamp) from the backlog, so this is not the last post of these 😉

Happy Halloween! 🎃

#hARToween Day 20: Dark Garden (backlog)

I really wanted to finish the full challenge in October still, so here's the result of my lunch break....

#hARToween Day 21: Spooky Swamp (backlog)

... and here's the result of my after hours drawing session ;)

And with that, I've done it! 31 #pixelart drawings in October! Phew!

#aseprite

in reply to Gina Häußge

I still had one #hARToween related thing I wanted to do - creating a wallpaper/grid of all the #pixelart drawings I did for that challenge in October. That's now also done!

Looking at all of them together I'm really proud of myself that I managed to do all of those. Definitely learned a lot that will help me with #gamedev related drawings in the future - and it also was a lot of fun 😊

When I started this journey, I thought I couldn't draw. This gave me courage to try 😊

i thought this was a great discussion between the 2 of you. Constructive about the way forward and the principles both aiming for, rather than a spat between ActivityPub & AT protocols. Great work.

You've probably read this article nytimes.com/2024/09/01/magazin… but I was just in Japan and amazed to see that this very cash-based society still uses the 1¥ coin — I kept getting them in change at stores — and these are even more worthless than the U.S. cent coin!

Against Our Better Judgment: The Hidden History of How the U.S. Was Used to Create Israel by Alison Weir, 2014

Soon after WWII, US statesman Dean Acheson warned that creating Israel on land already inhabited by Palestinians would "imperil" both American and all Western interests in the region. Despite warnings such as this one, President Truman supported establishing a Jewish state on land primarily inhabited by Muslims and Christians.

Acheson wasn't wrong, but his solution to the problem of European Jews was to leave them in the same concentration camps that Hitler had put them in, except with the guns turned around to protect them from European Christians who wanted to finish the job that Hitler had started. Needless to say European Jews weren't satisfied with that "solution". Truman had a choice: Accept the Jews here as immigrants, or send the Jews to Palestine. He chose Palestine. Because bigotry.

in reply to earthling

The history of how Truman brow-beat the British into allowing Europe's Jews to migrate to Palestine was never hidden. It's just not well known today due to a general disinterest in history. Truman had a problem: the media had documented the horrors of the Holocaust and demanded that the Jews of Europe be someplace other than Hitler's concentration camps. Yet anti-Jewish bigotry was still a huge thing in the USA. So. Palestine. They're all wogs right?
