Global benchmarks for oil prices were steadily rising on Wednesday, a day after Iran fired a barrage of missiles against Israel in retaliation for the Israeli army's offensive against Hezbollah.
In this edition, FRANCE 24's Charles Pellegrin explains why this could change the trajectory of global oil prices, how the world's energy supply could be affected and what this could mean for the global economy.

Why do I still use "ifconfig" even though it's deprecated under #Linux?
Because "ip addr show" is just too much typing! I'm an old-school user, I like my commands short, sweet, and to the point. Besides, "ifconfig" still works, so why change? It's like using a rotary phone... sure, it's outdated, but it still makes calls!
But seriously, you should probably learn ip properly one of these days... cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-ip-com…

exactly this. "ip" breaks convention, is too verbose on input and being a swiss army knife instead of a specific tool, it is forgettable too.
The human mind CAN remember the intrinsics of a specific tool (ifconfig for interface configuration, so we know all about ifconfig. Route for routes, so we know "all" about route. And so on. But bundle it all up in one and we know little to nothing as it gets all souped up in the grey matter.
Learning from the masters.
Doin' the same again and again will change nothing. All the horror in the world is made by people who follow orders and obey the low! Improvisation and music is the art of knowing the LAW and accepting them then BREAK IT!
For the experts: there were two major musical revolutions in the last century. On the one hand, jazz with blues and rock 'n' roll (and all the way to pop music) and the Russian or Soviet avant-garde, starting with Tchaikovsky and continuing to Shostakovich.

Right, the black patches on traditional soccer balls are pentagons and not hexagons. It is mathematically impossible to extend this pattern of all hexagons to the full soccer ball.
As for whether it is funny... meh. I "get it," but I don't find it particularly funny. New Yorker cartoons sometimes have that type of humor where they go for a clever and surprising twist on reality—with mixed success on how funny it is. For me they sometimes yield the reaction, "that's funny" (said with an internal deadpan voice) rather than a laugh, "hahahaha."
@andrewt @ColinTheMathmo @mina @standupmaths What about this abomination from a children's book. Completely unforgivable!

During Apartheid, the South African regime carved out what it called “homelands” for the members of its Black majority population. Ostensibly independent countries, these were really just puppet statelets created to excuse the lack of political rights for the Black majority. They couldn’t vote in South African elections, you see, because they were actually citizens of another country!
The rest of the world saw through this absurdly transparent ruse and refused to recognize the “homelands”—pejoratively known around the world as Bantustans—as independent countries. Not even Israel, a close ally of the apartheid regime, recognized them, although Israel later adopted the strategy in Palestine.

Mangope’s example so clearly illustrates how transparently fictional this approach is. His efforts to maintain apartheid in order to maintain his own rule were so obviously, comically against the interests of the Tswana community that we can’t help but to see through the lie.
We must also see through the lie in all cases, though, and not just ones as clownish as Mangope’s. Hitler had no justifiable claim to rule Austrians just because many of them speak German; Putin has no justifiable claim to rule Ukrainians just because many of them speak Russian. There is no organic, intrinsic relationship there that can justify rule.
