#Crypto #Cryptocurrencies #NorthKorea #CyberSecurity #Hacking: "CoinDesk identified more than a dozen crypto companies that unknowingly hired IT workers from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), including such well-established blockchain projects as Injective, ZeroLend, Fantom, Sushi, Yearn Finance and Cosmos Hub.
The workers used fake IDs, successfully navigated interviews, passed reference checks and presented genuine work histories.
Hiring DPRK workers is against the law in the U.S. and other countries that sanction North Korea. It also presents a security risk: CoinDesk encountered multiple examples of companies hiring DPRK IT workers and subsequently getting hacked.
"Everyone is struggling to filter out these people," said Zaki Manian, a prominent blockchain developer who says he inadvertently hired two DPRK IT workers to help develop the Cosmos Hub blockchain in 2021."

The Israeli military has admitted that secondary facilities at several air bases were damaged following a missile attack from Iran.
Aircraft losses are currently being denied and not confirmed, despite heavy hits to the Tel Nof and Nevatim bases, where fifth-generation F-35I Adir fighters are stationed.

The Washington Post reports that the Russian military advanced into Ukraine in August and September at a pace "not seen since 2022".
268 miles (431 km) were captured, mostly in the area from Bakhmut to Ugledar.
Ukrainian military officials told the publication that despite heavy losses, the Russians have enough forces to continue the offensive and Western aid does not compensate for the lack of weapons.
Such rapid advance is explained by the improved tactics

#DIYDay you're getting several updates today... you lucky people.
If only my back was so lucky... it's not. It's on the verge of spasming again.
But the underlay, door bars and grippers are now laid.
Carpet being fitted tomorrow.
Carpet protection also being fitted tomorrow, I'll grab a pic before I cover it up again. 😆
Can you spot the difference?

Two years ago, Jason M. Allen won a digital art competition with an AI-generated "painting." When criticized, he made no apologies. "Art is dead, dude. It's over. A.I. won. Humans lost," he told the New York Times. Now, @Gizmodo reports, he's miffed that his work can't be copyrighted and is itself getting ripped off. Here's the full story.

#FP #programmers (Haskell, OCaml, Standard ML, etc.) who had been strangled and swallowed by #Python, and had been left to rot within by Python 3 Typing, should look to #Coconut for redemption. It is a new strongly statically typed FP language that is 100% compatible with Python 2 and 3, and that transpiles down to Python.
An optimal use is to write the FP code in Coconut, use any Python library, transpile the whole programme down to Python 2 lowest common denominator, then run the generated code in PyPy or Stackless.
NB—Coconut does not displace Python, but supplements it.

What would be a cool feature is a system-wide "time-series signal processing" toolbox of some sorts.
That, for example, can be used to detect signal peaks over a defined time horizon based on simple thresholding.
I'd love to have this to count the number of duty cycles of our heat pump's compressor. But there would be endless more use cases for it I am sure.
