The better I get with OpenSCAD the less I want to use FreeCAD for 3D printing. Its still an awesome tool for my CNC routers, and lately I started learning about BIM. But for 3D printing I converted to composite designs. I believe I could get away with a 10 cc printer and still build large models.
I never worked with any commercial software so I cannot comment on that.

It is a very good thing too. I don't know if Portal / Jonathan Coulton was an inspiration, but I do feel the same vibe coming from the SID.
