“In a dire Trumpian future, you’re almost certainly not going to have an end to elections. They still have elections in Hungary, Turkey, even Russia. What you’d have is stuff like this, states acting as what amounts to an active belligerent in the political process by mobilizing state power.”

“It’s already happening in Florida.”

Had to take a break and listen to my favourite rendition of "Convoy", just because. "And eleven long-haired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse microbus..."

@metasilk It’s a pretty perfect piece—well-structured, tells a story, not a wasted furbelow. Plus it’s funny, and teaches one about a few things. Like scandal sheets!
in reply to Lili Saintcrow

I have now added it to my travel song playlist (and now to keep working/saving up for more travel...)

"Voting wars" is an insidious form of bothsidesing. This is voter suppression, clear and simple. Call it that, #BrokenTimes.

Mind Blowing IR satellite image of Category 5 hurricane #Milton. Those gravity waves! Max sustained winds of 290 km/h), central pressure of 905 hPa. Only 2 other hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico have had maximum winds of 180+ mph since 1950: Allen (1980) and Rita (2005). You’re looking at one of the strongest hurricane ever in the Atlantic basin!

Isn't this election interference? and illegal? Elon Musk is paying for votes.

How does this man have government contracts?

And silent from the DNC and Democrats.

I do think some of the authors on #IndieWebSocial should look at setting up author tags now that this server is upgraded to 4.3.

Is Starmer worse than Truss?

(poll started just for fun, on 2024-10-09, which, btw, nearly twice as long since labour "won" in the general election on 4th July, than Liz Truss's 50 days.)

in reply to Digit

i hear it was 49 days, not 50, in which case, i, by chance, started that poll, exact to the day, twice as long as truss's time as prime minister.
in reply to Digit

heh, seeing this again, after that fastest ever growing popular poll... to hold another general election, in desperation to be rid of him.

... his father was a tool maker.

This is the issue I have with many #OpenSource platforms; they almost make me feel guilty if I ask for #accessibility and it's not their fault directly, as this subject has been treated as "low priority" for at least 20 years. But if you're a small company or self-employed you can't make me feel guilty because I'm #blind as it's not my fault. Found this behaviour in #WordPress plugins and somewhere else. Open source isn't for me? Trouble is people, not software. tweesecake.social/@weirdwriter…

The perfect target’: Russia cultivated Trump as asset for 40 years – ex-KGB spy

The ex-major recalled: “For the KGB, it was a charm offensive. They had collected a lot of information on his personality so they knew who he was personally. The feeling was that he was extremely vulnerable intellectually, and psychologically, and he was prone to flattery.
