@neil indeed this is a bit old, but run into it because from time to time we check our own website for things like these. Your blog post is really good and gives more context, but the fact that some parts of digital infrastructure (CDN is a good example) is still managed by big tech is annoying. All these cases though illustrate that lots of people choose convenience over owning digital infrastructure....

This is why it's not just red states or post-Roe laws that are a problem. Catholic health care conglomerates own a MASSIVE number of hospitals and medical practices all over the country. Even places that don't sound Catholic (like the Swedish network here in Seattle) have been recently bought by groups like Franciscan Health or Providence. Anyone who's pregnant or could become pregnant should research where they can safely go in a pregnancy emergency. It won't be a Catholic hospital.

ISTANBUL, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Turkey has blocked access to instant messaging platform Discord in line with a court decision after the platform refused to share information demanded by Ankara, Turkish authorities said on Wednesday.

The San Francisco-based company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Turkey's Information Technologies and Communication Authority published the access ban decision on its website.
Justice minister Yilmaz Tunc said an Ankara court decided to block access to Discord from Turkey due to sufficient suspicion that crimes of "child sexual abuse and obscenity" had been committed by some using the platform.

Discord isn't an encrypted messenger nor a p2p one so I don't know exactly why you would take it down instead of taking down people sharing illegal content by yourself.

It actually began with a control alt delete dialog in Windows 3.1, took the Windows 9x form in Windows 95, and since the final release of NT 3.1, has took on its current role of being an unrecoverable system crash.

Linux actually now has a kernel panic screen, and yes, it was a LONG time coming!

BSOD was probably an improvement over just crumbling before your eyes.

At the time I believe that H/W vendors were producing crappy hardware, knowing that MS would get the blame for crashing.
