Oof. This was shared to me today and honestly it has me spinning. I won't pretend to be as informed about every aspect of #climatechange as I should be, but the direness of this well-sourced essay took me aback. 4C locked in? Absolute collapse? No way to survive past 2100?

I'd be interested to know if this is indeed the consensus amongst careful thinkers knowledgeable on these topics. I have no trouble believing that the IPCC is blowing smoke, but then seeking truth is that much harder.

Apologies if this is old news to y'all. I'm just reeling.

@CppGuy I think the ConservativeHome Sam Hall is a different one. The Medium guy's about page says "Sam Hall is a pseudonym". The ConservativeHome one seems to be a real person. They also link to different Twitter handles. I think we need to judge the Medium article on its own merits: the author doesn't claim to be a scientist or representing any particular scientific body.

@TheoEsc @CppGuy Thank you for that clarification. Yeah the lack of credentialing is a grain of salt that needs to accompany this reading. That said, the sourcing and reasoning are compelling.

The science behind why people think they're right when they're so, so wrong.

From NBC News: "There may be a psychological reason why some people aren’t just wrong in an argument — they’re confidently wrong. According to a study published Wednesday in the journal Plos One, it comes down to believing you have all the information you need to form an opinion, even when you don’t."

Limp Bizkit says Universal Music Group failed to pay out royalties after their streaming resurgence.

The band says in a new lawsuit that after their music saw a surge in popularity, it still had “not been paid a single cent by UMG” until taking action against them. The complaint gives a glimpse into what it’s like for a band seeing a revival of its music — and the alleged challenge of capitalizing on that.
