For those who might have missed this excellent piece by Timothy Snyder over the weekend. Excellent piece. Excellent context. More than worth your time.

Strongly disagree. The electorate does not organically care about trans people, because just a few years ago they were *against* bathroom bans. A focused campaign go demonize trans people did this. There was no counter to this, and I don’t (just) mean nobody refuted the false attacks. Nobody pushed a commensurateky effective true campaign. They need to be constantly hammering home the Republican history of child abuse & exploitation with the same ferocity, saying “they support child predators”.

After a miserable summer of foraging in drought-ravaged woods, I've been finding a few gems this fall. This morning I found oyster mushrooms, frozen solid, on a tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima) that I treated with herbicide to kill. So can't eat them, but it was great to see them. And a few weeks ago I found the nicest flush of lion's mane I've seen to date on my land. #MushroomMonday #fungi #mushroom #athensohio

Using a range of computational method, P307 was screened against the pool of proteins produced by the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii.

This revealed five bacterial peptidoglycan hydrolases, two of which had the potent ability to kill harmful species of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
both in vitro and in mice.

They retained this ability even after having been exposed to high temperatures,
with further experiments pointing to unique structural properties underlying this stability.

Taken together, these findings highlight an effective method to identify new bacterial-derived peptidoglycan hydrolases that could serve as antimicrobial agents

–10° (13°F for you Imperials) in my little town this morning. Big boy pants it is then

in reply to James Endres Howell has moved

I remember watching an episode of Bear Grylls in Siberia as a kid.

He said something like, "it's super cold here, the temperature at night could fall as low as –20°C". And I thought, WTF, it's not even that cold :D You should've come in winter!

Trump’s new nominee to head the FBI is being very open about how he’ll persecute MAGA’s enemies. A shrewd observer of autocracy explains how far he’ll be able to get—and why there’s cause for serious worry.

Why would anyone be celebrating this? Genuinely don’t understand it. Seems silly and hyperpartisan brained.

Has global warming accelerated in recent decades? If we look at the rate of warming between 1970 and 2008 and extend it through present, we see that almost all years since 2015 are above the previous trend.
