Springtime Goldfinch
This is an American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis).
"This handsome little finch, the state bird of New Jersey, Iowa, and Washington, is welcome and common at feeders, where it takes primarily sunflower and nyjer. Goldfinches often flock with Pine Siskins and Common Redpolls. Spring males are brilliant yellow and shiny black with a bit of white. Females and all winter birds are more dull but identifiable by their conical bill; pointed, notched tail; wingbars; and lack of streaking. We are currently seeing that some are indeed leaving X, but are going to #Bluesky. We do not consider this to be a sustainable solution, as we expect Bluesky to develop in a similar way to Xitter. Our experiences clearly show that true social media only exist if they are operated under the control of the users, like the services in the #Fediverse.
Nevertheless, we want to address and convince people who have not yet taken this step. The OSCM has recently set up a good approach to this by bridging its Mastodon channel to Bluesky:

Larger groups are more likely as we've seen in the CR votes yesterday.
so I understand the sentiment, but unity at allcosts, not criticizing the Democrats for some policies that are not acceptable to most supporters, allowing them to veer more and more to the right in order to supposedly get votes from people who weren't all the way into Trump, that just hasn't worked for us.
Let's just come up with good legislation, understand the needs of Americans, and not just play political maneuvering games.

That first one is called the ‘reference mark’ (※). It is used to mark a note, much like the asterisk (*) in western typography.

But I don't know why it would be placed on a facade like that. Maybe just a symbol of ‘be aware’, ‘please note’?
I went shopping recently and noticed an absence of music, lights, decor and general Christmas cheer at many places, as if they feared expressly acknowledging a major holiday that many people enjoy and celebrate.
And yet . . . they want the money those people spend on gifts and food for this holiday.
Bah humbug to them.

Dear #BTRFS #Snapper users, I have a question.
I set up a system to snapshot my root directory into a `snapshots` subvolume mounted at `/.snapshots` . I use #systemd homed for my home directories as separate subvolumes, which, at this point, I don't exactly understand how it works (the home directories are supposedly btrfs subvolumes).
Could I use snapper to snapshot my home directory into the same `snapshots` subvolume?
When the PC was invented, leaders like Bill Gates thought it would "give the individual the ability to work at the scale of an entire organization".
This missed the human factor of collaboration.
People don't need tools that output the equivalent work of an entire organization.
They need tools that allow them to organically self-organize and meaningfully operate at the same scales as an organization.
That's how you build things that help people.

They write a program that produces the same curve using turtle. (with older students we do the trig, which I just call “magic circle functions” for the grade fives)
This will make it all go much smoother!

indeed, plenty of people train LLM models to generate prompts for image generating models ... or there are scripts to use shatGPT or its competitors to do it. Waste layered on waste layered on waste. Every new round of techno-hype puts the dream of ending fossil fuel emissions gets further and further away. No matter how well or how poorly the technology works, its promoters are well on their way to having oceans of blood on their hands.
