The Israeli army is continuing its terror campaign against Kamal Adwan hospital in #BeitLahia .

It bombarded again today, hitting the nursery dept.

It ordered staff to leave. This would mean 80 patients being denied care.

It attacked the hospital even when a WHO delegation was visiting and arrested a wounded patient who was to be transferred.

It has withheld medical supplies sent to the hospital and blocked food and water supplies

Automatic voter registration is typically implemented at DMVs. But some states are now trying to expand it to other agencies to reach even more people.

Several states want to try this out at Medicaid offices; one state is doing it as people leave prison.boltsmag.org/automatic-voter-r…

Banning social media and introducing mandatory age verification checks is the wrong approach to protecting young people online, but politicians in Australia decided to do so anyway. eff.org/deeplinks/2024/12/aust…

How is that wrong exactly? Have you not seen the rise of fascism with Elon's X? This is a very necessary measure.
in reply to Electronic Frontier Foundation

I wonder if it depends on how it is implemented.
If the govt set up a service for issuing expiring cryptographic tokens as an anonymous digital 'proof of age' for some sites (or something). It still would not be great... But maybe okay...

For taxing assets, a really cool tax is a common ownership self-assessed tax. It basically partially collectivizes capital. I don’t like corporate tax on worker cooperatives due to its distortionary nature and the fact that it just gets passed on to consumers anyway. A better approach is progressive consumption tax, which hits less well-off people less hard. I’m fine with keeping corporate tax on capitalist firms.

I haven't thought much about how to design taxes that are well aligned with co-ops and worker-owned orgs. That makes sense.

The Irish capital Dublin might not be as well known for its transit as other English-speaking cities around the world, but it's got a solid rail and tram system now and an even more exciting future. Let's take a closer look!

This was a heartbreaking loss. The city of Philadelphia does not value its architecture. Benign neglect and greed destroy so much here.

This is perfect framing of the pseudoscience being used against gender-affirming care: straight out of "Merchants of Doubt,” the same playbook the far right has used to attack the science around climate change, tobacco, and abortion. The pseudoscience that corporate media parrots.
