I love this image. If it was real, it would have taken him like 15 minutes just to cross those few feet of snow.

In case you've not been paying attention, the odds of the Kremlin maintaining control of the Russian people by propping up their same old tired warmonger as president into the next year are vanishingly small imo.

"Cumulatively, these creators generate and receive multiple times more viewership than all of legacy media combined, including FOX News.

Legacy media’s slip into irrelevance is becoming so apparent, that even DNC politicians are smelling the blood in the water, and are now starting to get payback for all the years of “pro-MAGA” broadcasting."

What is a First-Class-Citizen in Programming?

When an entity (like a function) is considered a first-class citizen, it means that it can be used just like other fundamental data types (e.g., numbers,
strings):

Lina Khan is my hero! Said all the right things. That's how you make it right - of only we've had had enough time for this

"[...] They [Apple] literally said, please don't talk to her [...]" Jon Stewart about his time at Apple TV
"[...] We are here to protect the interests of consumers [...]" Lina Khan, FTC chair

"Making art is not an "economically rational" activity. Neither is attempting to persuade other people to your point of view. These activities are not merely intrinsically satisfying, they are also necessary, at least for many of us."

Amen to that, brother @pluralistic. Let me take the opportunity to thank you for your blog: your writing is cognitive prosthetics not only to you, but to me too. Happy holidays!

And so enshitification continues in the on-line second-hand market.... from abusive buyers to the constant bargaining on price and ghosting; from scams to mis-description....

Ah well @pluralistic was right... the good (technological) terms never last long...

Fear of this sort of thing is why I never get around to selling off a lot of my obscure games and books. I don't need the money, but I worry that they'll just get thrown out when I die rather than go to weirdos like me who will appreciate them.

Good morning. 🏖️🩴🌊

22 December 2024

I've been sitting here with my eyes closed, resting my head on my fingers. Before this, I was in bed in a deep sleep, dreaming about trying to get ready to take a physical fitness test. I was at a place that I've been before, but never outside my dreams. It is weird because my dreams seem to have some sort of broken continuity, like memory within my dreams. Much of what was in my dream is already starting to fade away. Because I tend to forget about dreams in time, I'm not sure whether the memory within my dreams is a memory from previous dreams; or if the memory exists only within the current dream. Anyway, I heard my wife say, "Ben is up walking around" and I got up.

The Famous Bering Land Bridge Was More Like a Swamp gizmodo.com/the-famous-bering-…

"#Geologists suggest that between 36,000 and 11,000 years ago, the #BeringLandBridge between modern-day #Siberia and #Alaska may have been less an arid steppe #grassland and more a boggy #ecosystem crisscrossed by rivers. This complicates #scientists’ understanding of the landmass and how its #landscape would have facilitated or impeded the spread of different species"

Well, that's a little bit cooler than what I saw this morning on our thermometer, hovering just above 0C. I was thinking, "Brrrr!"
