The Jack Dorsey talk has now been removed as a talk entirely with no comment from the FOSDEM committee.

There's a lack of transparency and accountability with how FOSDEM is organized and administered.

To be clear, I don't think the organizers of @fosdem are dishonest. I do think there could be more clarity and transparency.

Perhaps the slot could be repurposed as an open discussion for attendees, volunteers and the organizers.

in reply to Esther Payne

Looks like the planned sit-in will be repurposed as a discussion. Which is great, we're used to the idea in FOSS of working in the open.

Not only for accountability, but to help the next generation run their own conference spaces.

So if you're interested in a discussion about how #FOSDEM could be more transparent consider turning up to Jansen.

No Dorsey, but perhaps something way more relevant to conference goers.

@fosdem

New: The manufacturer of a medical device that costs six figures has told hospitals that they will no longer be allowed to fix them. Hospitals must now sign repair contracts with the manufacturer if they want the device fixed. Repair monopoly in action:

sorry, the ~~ice cream~~ Advanced Perfusion System 1 Heart Lung Machine is broken. May I recommend a Tylenol instead?
in reply to 404 Media

This is where the right to repair becomes a matter of life and death. If you can't open/alter/repair/get someone of your choice to open/alter/repair an item, you don't own it, you have a lease on the item that could be revoked at any time (company decides it's obsolescent or goes bankrupt). Consumer electronics, it might be just about okay for, but this.

China on Tuesday vowed to support the World Health Organization after President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the United States to withdraw from the body, which he has slammed over its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. 👏

China Vows To Support World Health Organization After US Withdrawal

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

Seems like a good time to remind everyone that if you were listening to any US health organization in February 2020 they were telling you not to wear a mask, while WHO and China never said that. Always look at what other countries are doing and what international organizations are saying, regardless if we're a member.

Hey, people who spent Biden's entire presidency attacking him for not admitting enough refugees, despite the fact that he literally spent his entire administration rebuilding the refugee program that Trump destroyed, and getting it back from zero refugees per year to 100,000!
Is this what you wanted?
whdh.com/news/trump-administra…
If there's one consistent theme that runs through all of Trump's executive orders, it's this: the cruelty is the point.

in reply to Jonathan Kamens 86 47

P.S. I am 100% in favor of putting pressure on any administration to do better. My problem is with people who insisted for four years that Biden wasn't doing "anything" about welcoming refugees and refused to acknowledge the progress that he had made. That's caustic, toxic bullshit.

Yeah i saw it! Another cool thing about Surf is it looks like you can nest feeds. So you can create a big master infosec feed and add all of the other curated feeds from folks like you! (I'm guessing then the Surf app would do smart de-duplication of things that appear in multiple feeds).

"Katherine of Aragon pleads her case against divorce from Henry VIII" by Henry Nelson O'Neill, circa 1850s-1860s.

The first wife of Henry VIII is frequently held up as an example of menopause in the past. But was she even menopausal in the first place?

in reply to Vagina Museum

Katherine of Aragon was in her mid thirties when she stopped falling pregnant. Previously she had been pregnant seven times, with only one child who survived beyond infancy. By the time she was 40, Henry had begun to pursue Anne Boleyn and attempting to divorce Katherine.

Henry fathered a total of eleven recorded pregnancies across three different wives. Only three survived beyond infancy.

in reply to Vagina Museum

This spring, we'll be exploring menopause from all angles in our new exhibition Menopause: What's Changed?

The exhibition will open in March. We're still fundraising for the associated events programme, so please donate what you can for deeper dives! gofundme.com/f/r9tszw

in reply to Vagina Museum

There was also Henry Fitzroy who lived into his teens, like his half-brother Edward VI.

Born 1519, which might tend to support the thesis that Katherine's pregnancies stopped not because of menopause but because Henry had lost interest in her.

#EU gas storage sites have emptied faster this year than in recent winters and are currently 59% full, according to the latest data from Gas Infrastructure Europe.

EU may need to buy an additional 12 billion cubic metres of gas this summer to refill storage sites, equivalent to around 120 LNG tankers worth $6 billion.

European gas prices have increased and remain high due to cold weather, the end of Russian gas transit via Ukraine, and the need to refill

in reply to raspberryswirl

@raspberryswirl they don't export LNG last I checked, but they could help build out cheap solar and nuclear. Last I looked, the EU was violently resisting that though.

Trump resumed bomb sales to Israel, and also won't hold Israel accountable for already breaking the ceasefire.

Libs will pretend like this is somehow different than what Biden was doing or would have done

in reply to Infamousblt [any]

I don't think anyone is deluded into thinking biden/Kamala would be doing anything different, but the fact that trump would be doing it also seemed obvious. So between two people with the same stance on genocide, they at least tried to choose the one with a better stance on trans people in the US.
in reply to eldavi

To be fair so far Trump is better. But after he publicly stated the ceasefire will probably fail the future is obvious. My meme might be getting ahead of itself though.

A big announcement many people missed is Netanyahu finally managed to fire Halevi as IDF chief, which he wanted for a long time.

definately ahead of itself based on the downvotes.

fwiw: i don't believe that trump cared at all about the gazans, he just wanted to fallout for the american empire to stop, so the violence is taking on a new form.

in reply to eldavi

On one hand you're right, but on the other hand if I wait too long the meme will no longer be funny. Since Israel is escalating their genocide in the West Bank I think it's fair to say Trump is not off the hook yet.
in reply to Thorry84

Buddy I'm not going to vote for a genocider. My grandparents were made to be refugees by the same entity bombing the same region supplied by the same American military industry with the same imperialist aims. I'm starting to think the genocidal imperialism isn't down to just one single president. Reading these kinds of posts from comfortable people who have never experienced what it's like to be on the receiving end of this shit drives me up the wall. You have no idea what you're talking about yet you can't just stay silent because of some irresistible urge to be smug on the internet.

Motherfucker they just got a fucking ceasefire fuck you fuck you fuck you I literally hope you and every other liberal scolding us for not supporting genocide gets run over by a fucking truck.
in reply to Thorry84

All the people who didn't vote for Harris because she supported the genocide better be proud of themselves for causing this shitshow. Trump has given Isreal the OK to kill whomever they like with zero consequences.

How did Trump cause a genocide when he wasn't in power at the time it began? And if Trump did give the Zionists the green light to kill whoever they want, how is that different from what Biden/Harris were doing or planned to continue doing?

in reply to anarchoilluminati [comrade/them]

Just more lib smugness they don't give a fuck about Palestinians, they gleefully use them as some sort of token to be like "see I told you it would be worse if you didn't vote for MY genocidal candidate"

These people are morally bankrupt and deserve all the contempt in the world for the way they smugly look down upon anyone with an ounce of principle.

in reply to Thorry84

Trump has given Isreal the OK to kill whomever they like with zero consequences.

Israel already had that, as evidenced by 15 months of genocide using US-provided weapons, intelligence, and logistical support; UN Security Council vetoes; a record-breaking number of Congressional standing ovations; and threats to the Hague.

Following Trump’s inauguration, Budde has the honor of being the first person to publicly confront the president to his face, at a time when many Americans will be looking for some form of hope in the face of what could be a very dark four years.
