More and more data = more and more storage space required = more and more costs. 
💻 Today's Small Practical Project:
Create a 1 GB dataset with random numbers, save it in CSV, Parquet, and Avro formats. Compress the files (e.g., with Gzip). Load the data into Pandas using Python and compare query speed.
So, how can we optimize data storage?
I have a bizarre issue. I have a rake task in a Ruby project (without rails) and am starting it with corn. It uses the sequel gem and is writing a lot to postgresql. If I start the rake task with cron inside the docker container, it takes over 10x longer to execute. If I enter the container and start the rake task manually, with the same command, it’s much faster. I don’t understand what’s going on or where to start debugging this.

My Fireface 400 also seems to work with Pipewire, but my very old RME Digi9652 PCI card completely crashes. People also report issues with the newer HDSP models.
The Fireface series is a good choice. However, I need 24 channels / 3 ADAT connectors, and I don't even know of any other interface but the HDSP PCIe card that works with Linux at all. (The HDSP has 32 channels actually).
I hope that Pipewire will get there one day. I'm now using my card successfully with the old Jack system like I used to for actually 18 years now, but one fine day Jack will be gone. And PCI will vanish, too, hopefully PCIe will last.
(I have filed a ticket in Pipewire's Gitlab concerning the issue.)

What the fediVerse is basically asking you guys of the #journalism guild is to simply add the tag #payWall, same as #giftLink, when ever there is one or the other.
Why would we know if an outlet has always or sometimes a paywall?
Me for myself I just don't and have no interest in starting to memorize who is who.
It's not only respectful with your readers and followers, it even protects them because every time we visit a site we get cookied and classified, and when that happens completely senseless because of the pay wall that definitely sucks.
Also, we do have our culture, our way of being, and our position about paywalls is quite clear in that regard. So it really feels like you just don't care about our culture out here if you refuse to respect our customs or requests, and that hurt's.

This is why my friends don't like Mastodon and call it scoldy: always another rule, always something one has done wrong. You say you already have your culture. That was exactly the attitude that kept, for example, Black Twitter away, because "new" people and their experience were not valued. No, I won't do that. If you don't like that, then please unfollow me.
