The Central Intelligence Agency became the first major national security agency to offer so-called buyouts to its entire workforce, a CIA spokesperson and two other sources familiar with the offer said, part of President Donald Trump’s broad effort to shrink the federal government and shape it to his agenda.

Trump's CIA will have a greater focus on the Western Hemisphere, targeting countries not traditionally considered adversaries of the US.

If a bomb explodes somewhere (which I hope won't happen), at a marathon for example, nobody will be able to explain how it happened.

The terror from within has just started in the United States.

My thinking on the subject of #EU funding of #FOSS it's much better than most but still completely blinkered to the #geekporoblem and #NGO agenders. This mess URGENTLY needs balancing

The "bus factor", often used in #FreeSoftware / #OpenSource discourse is a bad term, because "getting hit by a bus" is a very unlikely way to be removed from this plane of existence, getting hit by an SUV is much more likely... ( #urbanism )

So I will tell my kids "bus factor" means that "the developer got on the wrong bus and can't contribute anymore".

#lisp E. Fukamachi stopped his GitHub sponsors account, for good reasons:

> I’ve recently resolved my financial challenges after switching jobs.

Then a few extra bucks go to @shinmera and @cxxxr.

Both rely on sponsoring for their income.

ps: I saw worthwhile developers on Patreon but I feel that the platform takes too many fees :S

This is accurate, and it's due to the fact that baking bread depends on the moon. Bread will not rise properly during a neap tide, and rises best during a spring tide. Thus it is common for bakers to plan ahead and bake most of their bread during the spring tide periods and store it for the rest of the lunar month.

Neap tide bread is much stodgier and can cause ulcers.

the Gormanian calendar is objectively the best calendar. 13 months of 4 weeks each, plus 1-2 days of ‘Intermission’ at the end of the year not part of any week.

1/3 🚨 The EU #AIAct implementation process has been a hot mess so far 😬

Earlier this week, on 2 February, the AI Act's prohibitions on unacceptably risky #AI systems came into effect.

❌ As we cautioned most recently in our statement with xx organisations, these prohibitions are already too weak to effectively prioritise #HumanRights over AI companies' profits and protect us from further harms.

But that's not all... 🧵

AI in charge of nuclear weapons. Not like anything is super tense right now. I'm sure it will be :thisisfinefire:

in reply to Kim Possible

All of this is awful of course.

But.

Using AI for nuclear weapon security does not necessarily mean using AI to decide whether or not you're going to launch nuclear weapons. It could also mean using AI for securing the systems (which is bad enough on its own, I agree)

in reply to Kim Possible

I loathe OpenAI but this article is clickbait.

They’re not putting in it charge of anything and I highly doubt ever will, but there are safety concerns about models spelling out instructions in a way that motivated groups could leverage nefariously which is about the only actual safety issue there is wrt LLMs.

GebAI isn’t going to decide to launch nuclear weapons.

Meta is doing something similar, see:

techcrunch.com/2025/02/03/meta…

I think this points to there being a larger effort.
