The third and final day of #CGTC 5 is in the books. We had both research talks as well as talks about different #CombinatorialGames texts that maybe not everyone knew about. Here are my summaries: combinatorialgametheory.blogsp…
I miss everyone already!
CGTC 5, Day Three Talks
Combinatorial Game Theory blog. Algorithmic, computational complexity, CGT, abstract games, Nim, Col, Snort, Kayles.combinatorialgametheory.blogspot.com
My summary:
Prove Your Move : Very slow and steady, lots of exercise, aimed at a total novice.
Lessons in Play : Well-presented, clear motivation, by Ch 8 you're definitely not a novice.
Winning Ways : The Classic. Sometimes seems chaotic, but fun and in some ways very natural.
(Aside: I have a copy signed by all three authors, and have personal anecdotes about all three).
GONC : Research papers. A reference work, not a textbook or pedagogical work.
Let me know how things go with Publish on Demand.
I will probably start with PYM just to get an initial sense of it, and feel comfortable and reassured by the bits I know.
I didn't get the talk summaries out last night due to the #CGTC conference dinner, but I just finished the post: combinatorialgametheory.blogsp…

I've helped a couple of people download Wikipedia locally over the last couple of days and decided to make a quick video tutorial: youtube.com/watch?v=eGXCI65uER…
I'm also backing up CDC data now and looking into NOAA next. More on that soon.

Maybe I went overboard--but really the only thing there we don't grow regularly is methi/fenugreek grown for leaves. We've tried it in the past and not gotten good results. I'm going to try it in pots. i'm also going to see if I can get some methi from the store with nodules to innoculate the soil. I think that the rhizobial bacteria for methi is not normally found in out soil.

Also they are just soo cute!

I think if you are growing for microgreens, you probably want to buy stuff that is intended for sprouting. I think stuff sold as spices is often heat treated or irradiated to kill pests.
I was trying to decide between seeds sold for microgreens or for planting for both the methi and amaranth. I decided to go with the ones for planting because they are probably a different variety.
