What is mastodon.social's policy if it had received the same takedown request? Meaning if an account on mastodon.social was ordered to be taken down by a Turkish judge 'under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651, citing “national security and public order.”'
Bluesky didn't reach a federated stage where you could choose a service provider in a free country before they started to censor people based on authoritarian demands.
The difference here is that there is no ‘one’ Mastodon. So it would be much harder to control the presence of people on the Fediverse than with Bluesky.
And I think exactly this is the message that can be learned from this article: a true social and federated approach, the way the Fediverse works is superior to the centralized approach that Bluesky uses.
@koen Thats absolutely true from the network perspective. easy to make an account on another instance, and indeed much harder to impossible to control the presence of people on the fediverse.
But people have a presence on an individual server. Would mastodon.social thus simply say to the threatened account "sorry, we have to comply with the law, so please move your account to a different server"?

Agreed. Also if mastodon.social's response to the takedown involves deleting posts, that deletion will get federated out, so the copies of the post on other instances will also be deleted.
By contrast, it looks like Bluesky implemented the takedown as with a moderation service that's required for all Turkish users in the Bluesky app. So this means that people who aren't in Turkey, and people using other apps, can still get it it -- which wouldn't be the case if .social takes a post down.
(Of course the Turkish judge might well find that Bluesky hasn't obeyed the order because they did it this way, so this is all subject to change, but I believe this is the current situation.)
@jdp23 @koen yes. And at no point in internet history were any of these issues/difficulties properly resolved. Imagine (hypothetically) extreme racist content about the US that I could view but you couldn’t - would your not seeing it feel sufficient to you? How would you feel about your participation in the commercial entity that profited from it? Or conversely, the use of said commercial entity by actors that (legally by the standard of that country) are using it for evil (lots of real examples to choose from here…) in their own countries… can that circle even be squared (by transnational corporate actors?)

@marcoboh ora...non vorrei farla troppo seria ma secondo me questi sono problemi anche dei genitori. I bambini lo capiscono quando fai finta che una cosa ti piaccia per fargliela mangiare e vogliono mangiare le cose che invece sembrano buone davvero. Se in casa la verdura si mangia di gusto, probabilmente imparano ad apprezzarla anche loro...salvo altre problematiche più complicate che possono sempre esserci.

Penso di essere uno dei pochi bambini che non ha mai fatto storie sul cibo, forse perché quello che mi preparavano mi piaceva tutto.
A volte qualcosa non mi entusiasmava (tipo lo stufato di polmone con cipolle, per esempio), ma lo mangiavo lo stesso perché avevo capito a che livello stava il mio potere contrattuale.
