A #GIMP WIP inspired by a @prokoudine LibreArts article.

It's a Total Ink Coverage display filter! A simple algorithm that shows how much CMYK ink is being used in a particular part of the image. This is useful to know for printing, as different paper has different ink limits.

I want to integrate it with the soft-proofing pop-over as well, but this is a nice start.

GIMP reshared this.

@Paul von Drayventhal @Aleksandr Prokudin @CmykStudent

In my new job I am working as prepress technician and I am preparing plates from an Hidelberg suprasetter... Total ink coverage is the nightmare of the chief pressman, I usually work on the picture itself to reduce the total ink; Photoshop has a fine GCR/UCR tuning mode.

GIMP may do the same, but the point is that, unless some very specific requirement, you want to reduce the amount of ink only where it is in excess and keep the others colors safe. You don't want to change all the colors at once...

I bet Inkscape needs this too since it can't still control the CMYK output however on the vector side you are more in control of your colors.

@freezr @Drayventhal Thanks! Yes, all this display filter does is highlight the areas in the image where the total ink coverage is higher than the threshold you set. It's then up to you to make any changes - it doesn't actually affect the image directly (though there's a good suggestion to be able to create a selection from the highlighted areas).

This is just another step in improving GIMP's CMYK tool set.

The Betrayal of Limited Run Games: What They Don't Want You to See

Some pretty messed up stuff.

Not sure why the Youtube link is in German - the video is in English, and I don't live in Germany.

That doom box they're selling is fucking ridiculous, $666 for doom 1 and 2, some cards a Tamagotchi that runs doom, a cassette tape and a box that runs doom... Like $300 would be too much for that.
in reply to DUMBASS

Personally, I think sellers can demand whatever they want for luxury goods. It's on buyers to decide if it's worth it or not.

It's still annoying for me people like me, who can't afford these though.

in reply to slimerancher

I agree they can demand whatever they want, but it's still a ridiculous price.
in reply to slimerancher

But saying that, I really want that box that you can play doom on lol
in reply to DUMBASS

I like the Cacodemon more. Both the floating one and the one that you can play doom on. Let's pool our money and buy it together, you keep the Box, I'll keep the Cacodemon, we can sell the rest for $500 😀
in reply to slimerancher

I like that you think I have $333 to my name, makes me feel rich.
in reply to slimerancher

That would be the optimal case, however in reality, limited runs and other marketing tactics heavily manipulate people into buying overpriced stuff they don't need. I think it's unfair to put all the responsibility of deciding what acceptable prices are on the buyer, when companies spend billions in researching marketing tactics. That's why there needs to be more guard rails coming from governments, so that consumers can't be abused as much.
in reply to slimerancher

I don't think anyone is arguing against their right to sell it, they're being called out because people really shouldn't buy it. It's kind of a bad financial decision. If you still want to that's your decision but people shouldn't buy it without knowing they could get a better deal elsewhere. That's why these things get called out for being too expensive, not because they aren't or shouldn't be allowed to, but because people deserve to know it's a horrible deal.
in reply to DUMBASS

66.6 would be a banger for that

Congrats to whistle blower Ashley Gjøvik on winning her NLRB case against Apple. Her determination and perseverance over many years is inspirational to all that fight for better working conditions, and will have a lasting impact for many years to come.

Ashley does not count herself as a part of AppleTogether, but nonetheless we admire her tenacity, and felt it would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the victory as it should directly affect all workers at Apple.
