Anima Rising. By Christopher Moore.

You are a formerly dead girl, fished out of a Vienna canal in 1911 by a horny Gustav Klimt, but you’ve lost your memory so he takes you to his friend, Freud, who isn’t much help but luckily several gods of the underworld offer guidance and it turns out you have superhuman strength ….then things get weird.

Sönke Iwersen and Michael Verfürden offer a horrifying and thorough report about how impossible it has proven for survivors of people killed in Tesla car crashes to get information about why the car malfunctioned.

Tesla has extensive files. But it won't release information, apparently.

So all survivors are left with is knowing that their loved one died because the car sped up without any warning, or its emergency brakes activated without warning, or the car crashed and its occupants burned to death because the retractable door handles wouldn't permit emergency workers to open the doors and get them out of the cars.

About those door handles: apparently Elon Musk likes the sleek look of retracted door handles, and that's why this problem exists. As for the people dying because of his stylistic preferences, well, they're just part of the experiment:

"The world is his lab. Everyone else is part of the experiment."

The French city of Lyon is dropping #Microsoft software in favor of #OpenSource alternatives. It doesn't want to depend on proprietary, closed-source software, and it doesn't want to depend on *American* software. It doesn't want "potential [US] governmental surveillance."
news.itsfoss.com/french-city-r…

PS: It seems clear that #Trump is playing a role here. While he uses tariffs to boost American companies, he scares foreign buyers away from American companies, at least software companies that collect user data. He's creating a #TikTok problem for American software. Microsoft didn't help itself on this front by giving $1 million to the Trump inauguration.

BTW, many other US closed-source software companies gave $1m to the Trump inauguration, among them Adobe, Amazon, Google, Meta, and Perplexity.

Update. "#Austria's military has switched from #MicrosoftOffice to #LibreOffice. The move was all about digital sovereignty, not cost savings. Other governments are moving away from Microsoft to protect their citizens' privacy."

Interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

Like the Austrian Military has successfully done, I hope that when other sizeable organizations migrate to LibreOffice (which is fantastic), that they still maintain a reasonable budget for funding FOSS donations.

Yes. The article shows how they've been practicing good stewardship:

> Austria isn't just replacing Microsoft software. Unlike typical public-sector and corporate migrations, Austria's military has heavily invested in LibreOffice development itself. The armed forces have been funding the creation of new features and improvements that are now included in public releases. These additions, ranging from improved slideshow editing to better handling of pivot tables, have been rolled into the latest version of LibreOffice.

i wish there was a wikipedia article for all these migrations . half of them get undone , and it's hard to see the differences and compare e.g. LiMux , the introduction of linux to Munich , with this

It's buggy as hell. So they don't have much choice. Maybe they will succeed in getting a free replacement for MS office that works. 🛸

Which #Linux distro is the Danish traffic agency going to replace Windows with?
in reply to petersuber

When I lived there, they were super dependent on Microsoft. Now they are starting this process to avoid this vulnerability.
