Ok
Apparently the only way to be able to use apps with any kind of window mode in #iPadOS26 is to enable Stage Manager. I’ve never liked Stage Manager, the previous iteration was a giant waste of screen space. But fine.
So what is going on here? Why does Ivory hang off to the side when I minimize Inoreader? Why doesn’t it reappear when I switch to a different full-screen app? What on earth is the point of the Home Screen disappearing when I click it and Ivory slides back in?

Below the video, there are thumbnails of related videos, and the page includes options to "PICK YOUR PERK," "SAVE FOR LATER," and "SHARE." The campaign description highlights the use of LiDAR for mosquito detection and laser elimination, with applicability to various scenarios.

"The drought in the Southwestern U.S. is likely to last for the rest of the 21st century and potentially beyond as global warming shifts the distribution of heat in the Pacific Ocean, according to a study published last week led by researchers at the University of Texas at Austin.
Five years ago, he said, farmers would say they’ve been through droughts before, and this one would soon pass. Now, he said, their tone has changed to “This is a different kind of a drought.”"

Two gamedevs with whom I talk a lot came up with the idea to create a dedicated game for kids but with a set of rules we should abide:
- There must be a lesson of good in the game
- The game should be focussed on learning in a fun creative way
- No violence / gore
- No lootboxes / gambling / in-app purchases
- One-time set price
- Not making it addictive
I think that could be a very fun project!

Back at work today, but you still need music! Use a few minutes of the boss's time to read and listen to this week's Other People's Music selection. A pair of experimental rock acts open & close the post, with a pair of folk acts & some minimal ambient in between.

Announcement: I do not EVER use AI in my artwork.
Being accused of using it is so deeply offensive given how much time, effort and love goes into making art.
Artists, how do YOU respond to such accusations?
Shit is so tiring and infuriating.

if, after some point, there's simply nothing left to do - they'll quit and return the next day. That way you don't exclude anyone who takes a little longer to complete something 🙃 ah, plenty of ideas I'm sure. I'm confident you'll make something nice if you decide to do it!

in reply to David Chartier • • •I am honestly trying to understand how this is supposed to work. Because right now it seems like a bunch of pre-junior vibe coders walked into the iPad wing and poured a bunch of Everclear on the iPadOS source code and called it a day.
How is this in any way shape or form useful.
(Also ignore the apps on my Home Screen. I’m rearranging things)

in reply to David Chartier • • •Look at how perfect Split View and Slide Over were here in the previous iPadOS. **Look at it**
You cannot tell me that anyone who actually understood the strengths of the iPad and a touchscreen OS said “yep, let’s throw this out for 30-year-old clunky, fiddly, tedious Mac windowing conventions and tools because they’re better. People will *love* trying to tap microscopic stoplight buttons.”
You just can’t. Because you would objectively be lying and so are they.

in reply to David Chartier • • •For an #iPadOS26 example, here’s the best way I can find to get Split View based on Apple’s demo. Ignore the jank, that’s just beta stuff.
This also doesn’t work with a trackpad right now, so I’m using my finger on-screen to flick windows to the left and right.
Note: It’s a bunch of extra taps to get the 2nd app, full-screen it, swipe it over to one side, then get the original app. Also note how fiddly it is to take one of the apps full screen again. This is just bad.

in reply to David Chartier • • •It very much feels like a monkey's paw deal.
The nerds (me included) wanted the option to have macOS-like windowing. So Apple gave us that, and nuked the other system that also worked.

Unknown parent • • •@schwa I disliked when Apple added the three dots at the top, but I had hope it would help these features be more discoverable.
At this point I only hope us OGs can rattle the cages so they bring these features back. They can stay out of people’s way, that’s fine. But they don’t need to be removed.
