in reply to donthatedontkill • • •There's a lot of different plants called a "Morning Glory", but it sounds like they all have a lot on common, so, I'm going to assume your plant is like the ones in my neighborhood:
They are famously hard to kill. Their vines will rapidly climb up anything and everything to the point it can be problematic - but also, said vines are weak and easy to break. That's a survival mechanism, much like how a lizard can detach it's tail to escape a predator.
The true "core" of the plant, where it's stockpiling it's reserves, is actually underground. It throws out shoots to form vines from that rhizome. If it can't save the stump it will try to start a new one using the energy it has stored. This might take some time, though.
