A warm bath sounds great right about now! 11 degrees F and it feels like minus 3. 🥶

Is #sewing fedi a thing? If so, I have a question.

My 10 year old is incredibly crafty, and loves making outfits for her toys. My wife and I think getting her a simple sewing machine would be a hit.

Are there any beginner-friendly machines we should look at? Say in the $50 range. We've found options but we don't really know how to judge if they're decent or not.

Going against the grain of the other replies, it’s not that much more money to get this store.moma.org/products/axe-ya… which gives more of a sense of what modern sewing machines can do, is smaller and more portable, etc.

@JMMaok It's five times the budget. How is that not much more... 🤨

As a testbed for my #CommonLisp fully-local vendored deps REPL experiments, cl-minifloats (codeberg.org/aartaka/cl-minifl…) suffers first. It now has `make slynk` and `make swank` tasks that run a REPL with all the dependencies of cl-minifloats preloaded and ready for evaluation! No Quicklisp involved, no package managers at all, in fact.

So you can do `make slynk`, connect to cl-minifloats with `sly-connect` in #Emacs (and possibly other editor plugins, but better use `make swank` for that,) and play with this tiny binary float encoding library all you want!

The most common male first name in English speaking countries is James; out of the whole world regardless of language, it's Mohammad. The most common surname in the world is Wang. Is there someone alive right now whose real name is James Mohammad Wang?

dear steam: my account itself is over 18 years old you do not need to keep asking my age when i am looking at games

ok so i'm on standby for jury duty, and the court house is somewhere that would require a bunch of transit connections to get to, and so i figured i'd try out one of these "ride sharing" things, but my phone is too old and apparently you have to use them through the app, but the summons is for january and my phone is roughly 9 years old and every surface of the phone except the screen by some miracle is damaged so... maybe I should get a new one?

is there a "good" phone with a "headphone jack"?

in reply to aeva

the sony xperias are too expensive and you might not like the aspect ratios. BUT they have a headphone jack, historically good cameras, and a low amount of additional bullshit beyond Google's bullshit. You might like how the cameras are focused on high manual control and limited machine learning bullshit.

The image depicts a science fiction landscape with large, mechanical, spider-like vehicles hovering over a grassy field. In the foreground, tall green grass and shrubs fill the bottom of the frame, leading back to a figure in the distance, appearing small and silhouetted against the dusty ground. Several large, teal-colored, spherical robots with multiple legs are scattered across the field, kicking up dust as they move. In the background, there are towering, intricate structures that resemble cities or complex machinery, also in shades of teal and green. The sky is a vibrant orange color with a swirling, cloud-like pattern.
