I like making my Mastodon fork behave exactly the way I want. One feature I miss from other platforms is videos that autoplay and loop muted. I'm going to implement that in my fork, just like on those other platforms. It will respect the system-wide reduce motion setting.

My goal is to keep Mastodon core as close to vanilla as possible and not overload it with features like glitch-soc, just improve the things I want, both in UI and functionality.

Being a MastoAdmin is nice, you get to build your own tools and learn new things.

A wide, landscape photograph depicts two small buildings situated on a grassy hill. The sky is overcast and gray. The foreground consists of tall, dry, golden-brown grasses, and a dark, wet patch of ground is visible in the lower left corner. To the right, a larger building with a dark gray roof and red siding is visible, featuring three green windows. A smaller, dilapidated building with a gray roof is positioned to the left of the larger one. The hill the buildings are on is covered in brown vegetation and appears to be somewhat elevated above the surrounding field.

"Last night in Chicago, MS NOW anchor Rachel Maddow — one of America’s most prominent progressive voices — revealed to a live audience that, after years away, she has returned to the Catholic Church.

It was an remarkable admission from a public figure who is openly gay and often seen as a secular icon."

@RainbowFrog @weezmgk As far as I'm aware, she's not renouncing her LGBTQ identity and longstanding relationship. Nor should she. The burden is on the church to welcome everyone and begin to face the damage its hateful teaching about intrinsic disorder has done to very many people. By claiming her rightful place in the Catholic community and not renouncing her identity and relationship, Maddow forces the Catholic community to start facing what it has done to LGBTQ folks.

@RainbowFrog @weezmgk And then there's the potential of Pope Leo as a global religious leader to give strong voice to a worldview that directly counters the worldview of Trump and of growing fascist movements globally. I personally think it's politically nonsensical for so many liberal/progressive people to attack liberal/progressive people whose religious faith motivates them to purse the same goals other progressives are pursuing.

in reply to William Lindsey

to be deadly honest, I'm not actually inclined to give this much consideration as I haven't heard it from Rachel's lips, only 2nd hand from a papist blogger. It is breathlessly covered by Newsmax, so it's getting filed under far-right horsepuckey @RainbowFrog
in reply to Comrade Weez

@weezmgk @RainbowFrog Interesting that you choose to use the old anti-Catholic slur word "papist." It seems your issue is primarily with your own hostility to Catholicism and not with the credible reports of two journalists who were at the live event and reported what Maddow said at the event.
in reply to William Lindsey

@RainbowFrog I'm hostile to all religions, 'papist' was just a handy word, I have no idea how especially hostile it is to cathlics
in reply to Comrade Weez

@weezmgk @RainbowFrog To be brutally honest, I think that hostility to people allied with us in struggling to combat fascism is colossally dumb. Approaching people and their belief systems with hostility isn't the way to build strong intersectional movements with the potential to overcome increasingly strong fascist movements in the world today. You may choose to discount the moral witness of people whose resistance to fascism is based in faith. I don't see myself having the luxury to do that.
in reply to William Lindsey

I do have the luxury to do that. Imaginary friends cause at least as much harm as fascists and if you're unwilling to recognise that, you're part of the problem @RainbowFrog
in reply to Comrade Weez

Sorry, but I'm not into the game of condescension and hostility to people who deserve my solidarity. Having grown up in the US South during the Civil Rights movement and seen the strength and obvious conviction of people of color struggling to defend human rights, I'm not about to condescend, exclude, judge those people and anoint myself their superior. But you must do you. I’ll continue sticking with Rachel and all she offers.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've last posted. I'm Sound Warrior, a totally blind electronic musician looking to get involved with the electronic music part of the #Fediverse if anyone could give me a few pointers on who to follow, who to contact, or who to maybe collaborate with, that would be great. I make a mixture of experimental rave music with #grime, #techno, and #jungle influences.
in reply to sound warrior

If you browse and follow the #fediwave and #bonkwave tags you'll find a lot of our Usual Suspects, and the #music tag for a wider range of musicians.

As well as Indie Art Support, as mentioned by others, @nham are also an outstanding force for good here. Their Web site is at nham.co.uk/

@strim run a platform for experimental music and host a ton of live streams for musicians here.

This is terrible, obviously. But another lesson for self hosting weirdos like me who offer services to friends and family is that the same outcome is possible with a simple accident or mistake. Be careful with other people's data. There's more to it than just encryption.

I just solo’d a +26 Mythic in Legion Remix, which means I’m potentially only 2 dungeons away from the last achievement I need to do on my main. Next is a +29 Upper Karazhan; I hate Karazhan, and given how much slower stuff is dying at this level, it’ll be tough
