“When I’m studying a book, I pause whenever I feel a strong emotion. If I stop because I’m utterly shocked, I look back at what the writer did to create that shock. When I am floored by a beautiful sentence, I look back at what I found so stunning about that particular string of words. Then I take notes on what I’ve learned. Reading as a writer requires you to take a step back as you read, and reverse-engineer your responses.”

This is an IR photo, made in afternoon light with a 1000nm filter and the Phase One Achromatic back. 1000nm is a fairly long IR wavelength, rendering a soft, surreal look. (IR photos are usually captured around 750-800nm). I used the Rodenstock 50mm HR-Digaron, which leaves the moon small in the frame but still recognizable.
This is (of course) a nod to Ansel Adams' "Moonrise, Hernandez, NM". But Adams' 1941 photo was made just after sunset, in the visible spectrum. See moma.org/collection/works/5390…

in reply to Bonfire • • •I really really want groups to happen. I see so many opportunities for its application in local communities with moral sense, from schools, daycares, libraries, community hubs, interest clubs, and local businesses, to churches or even just families. Imagine a world where it is easy to have a central space for an organization to come together and share without supporting Meta or some other evil megacorp.
If the fediverse can become a gathering place for communities and not just individuals, what a powerful thing that could be.
I'm out of a job and can't contribute financially but I'm passionate about doing what I can to make this happen, even if it's just boosting posts for now!
