Even as more Democratic Senators have committed to voting NO on the Republican continuing resolution, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said he plans to vote yes. This is a terrible choice, an abdication of his responsibilities to the Constitution, the country, and to those fighting to save democracy and rule of law in the U.S. I sent a comment via Schumerโ€™s contact page, urging him to reverse his decision. You can too at schumer.senate.gov/contact/mesโ€ฆ. Feel free to use mine as a script.

My current boilerplate:

So #ChuckSchumer has -- what's the word I need to choose carefully here? -- capitulated

I knew he would

The #DemocraticParty is old and preparing their Golden Parachutes to gently glide down into the Golden Years of their retirements

They've all got what they want

America can go suck eggs

Then: I've called #PattyMurray and #MariaCantwell repeatedly and got nothing but voicemail after long waits

Last time *I* replied to one of Patty Murray's fund raising emails it was immediately bounced back to *me* with a "User Unknown" error

This, me replying *to* Murray's email list, from an email address I've had since 1998

The Democrats don't want to hear from Americans

The Democrats have checked out and left us all on our own

#ContinuingResolution #CR

@jztusk my senators' phone lines have been basically off, so this is my only option.
in reply to @pineywoozle โ€˜s #3WordNote

@Pineywoozle I have been reading this argument for days. It simply doesnโ€™t hold up. Of the the 2 bad choices, the only one that has even a chance of preserving a check on Trump , Musk, and the Republicans in Congress is to refuse to do their work for them. @gwync @samhainnight @jztusk
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

Thanks, thatโ€™s why I was asking. I had a nasty fall a few days ago & I feel less informed than normal & I wanted input. Part of what made me hesitant about it is it genuinely has the feel of the massive attacks on Pelosi yrs ago & how much good she managed to do after that despite all the attacks. To many posts Repeating propaganda, like โ€œif he votes on this, Iโ€™m stepping away from the Dems.โ€ The Propagandists donโ€™t normally attack the bad choice. @gwync @samhainnight @jztusk
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

Thanks, itโ€™s just more pain but itโ€™s temporary it just takes time away from genuinely paying attention and investigating whatโ€™s happening. @gwync @samhainnight @jztusk

I sent him a message as a third generation New Yorker and current DC resident

Just my read, but it seems like a no-win for the Dems. Vote for it, and be complicit. Vote against it, and be blasted as the ones responsible for the shutdown. The facts won't matter, because we're in a post-truth world.

@pmonks What pushback? Who is going to push back? The time to push back is right now, by refusing to give up leverage on appropriations.

โ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ if he had any honour, heโ€™d resign as Leader tonight.
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

i already had contacted my senators and now I have also contacted Schumer.

@Lundemo If they have 6 months, Musk and Trump will wreak major destruction of the executive branch, far worse than the damage theyโ€™ve already done. Now is the time to stand up against them. @justajason
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

Done! He should step down if he thinks giving the GOP the power they need to destroy this nation is the right direction.

In a recent post (Why Would Voters Trust Democrats? - chiefphd.substack.com/p/why-woโ€ฆ) I outlined how the Democrats have been losing ground since 1980. The latest example of Democrats being out maneuvered and spineless shows once again that a bunch of old bureaucrats with no fire in their bellies arenโ€™t even a minor distraction to the Republicans, and not trustworthy when to comes to defending the interests of the average American.
in reply to Chief

@Chief off topic, but please consider moving your blog to ghost.org/.
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

I didn't use your script. I called him a schmuck and Paul von Hindenburg.
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

so you think he doesnโ€™t have a point about the fact that the shut down would basically let them do the same thing only worse? @pmonks
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

The Democrats should be vowing to block this bill and absolutely everything else the Republicans try to do until the talk about annexing Canada stops.
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

Both of my senators, Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, have committed to a no vote on the spending bill.

I wrote! Thanks for the inspiration. I relish a low profile & didnโ€™t like providing all the info they asked for, but if not now, when?
I donโ€™t understand why Schumer is being such a pussy!
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

Thanks, Heidi. I also messaged him and got 3 of my friends to message him as well. We have to flood him with calls and messages to make him understand that the American people know whatโ€™s at stake and we are willing to fight even if he isnโ€™t. I told him now is the time for strong leadership, not capitulation.
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

I called my reps again, got a hold of someone this time who confirmed they were still voting NO on both, which I said I support and appreciated.

I then called one of Chuck Schumer's local offices. It took 4-5 calls to get through (busy signals), but I left a message telling him I was upset that he said he'd be voting Yes, and that I want him to stand up to Republicans and vote NO on the CR. We need to demand enforceable commitments to getting Musk out of our Federal gov.
