A lot of people seem to think Tumblr banned NSFW content because of the App Store, that couldn't be further from the truth.
Remember this when they arrive to the #fediverse (if they do), they don't care about you, they care about advertisers.

they also deployed a user tagging system for mature content (presumably to support auto-hiding it according to Apple's demands)
