of course you have to be careful here to accurately identify your interlocutor
there are people who are honestly looking for engagement and have been lied to and you can correct the record and deprogram them from the propaganda efforts of online troll farms

I've found they get extra mad when we all start encouraging them that it's okay to grow up, think for themselves, do and be better. They copy and paste their propaganda a while, realize no one's listening, and find their way out.
But yeah, this really only works in spaces where everyone is smart enough to recognize common propaganda and counter it by employing any sense of humanitarianism.
