Chat Control is back, but slightly changed:

❌ No backdoor of encryption
❌ No forced scanning
🚨 But: Age verification (no anonymity)

The update just quietly passed in the EU Council & now needs to be discussed with the EU Parliament.

👁️Big Techs like #Gmail and #WhatsApp will continue to scan your data.

Will you keep fighting against #ChatControl?

in reply to Tuta

so, does this mean National ID verification is mandatory?
in reply to Lucky

@luckychronic Age verification is planned - there's no concrete proposal on how to achieve that.
in reply to Tuta

@luckychronic most likely, everything will require a digital identity wallet based on #eidas2.
in reply to Tuta

: ja, auch wenn der Kampf niemals endet 💪👍

Fighting against Chat Control should be everyone's priority right now most than ever since 2022!

Unfortunately, content about it is being censored on social media such as Facebook, were accounts were suspended for posting information about it... Denmark is doing their best to force any chance of votes from MEPs at their favor (as they did to pass it...) and to do it without citizens even noticing.

in reply to Superboom

@superboom12s Thanks for helping spread awareness! We will continue to say no to Chat Control.
in reply to Tuta

I am not have own tools to _fight_ against chatControl as it is beyond my personal scope of control.
I will have to adapt.
And generally speaking, I am already ready mentally to times when I can't trust any personal stuff or even some grumpy talk to any electronic device around me.
I don't panic, I am calm. I expect I will have to be ready that a dictatorship in country where I live will introduce own "age verification" and jail time for not being hysterically happy about authorities.
in reply to Tuta

Die sollen sich endlich mal um wichtigere Dinge kümmern, als immer nur wie China und Nordkorea die eigenen Bürger zu überwachen. 😠
in reply to Tuta

So if I understand correctly, under the current proposal, if I wish to continue to use say Signal or WhatsApp to have video chats with my life partner I will need to verify my age and expect to have any communications scanned by the service providers.

But making a phone call to the same person from a dumb phone will not?

Or does the EU proposal want to extend age verification and the voluntary scanning of communications to more traditional telephony systems as well?

#chatcontrol

in reply to Tuta

This is marginally better than the original proposal.
Age verification, is easy enough to circumvent by using a VPN, connected to a server outside the EU.

Honestly it's so annoying...Freedom is a human right. Why do we even need to discuss about that? Age verification is the first step for them to push their agenda. After that probably scanning and after that backdoor of encryption. It's just the same propaganda like always in the history. They try to make it less bad by approaching it step by step. So that it get's not much attention, so that no one speaks much against it. Since it's "just age verification"

But not with us!

in reply to Zahox

@zahox Well said. We must all continue to speak up and oppose this.
in reply to Tuta

Well, I was teaching my colleagues in Russia and Belarus how to stay anonymous and circumvent censorship. Didn't expect though, that this knowledge will become necessary in the EU
in reply to Tuta

we should keep fighting, wanting to be anonymous online should be a right for many reasons
in reply to Alexander Olsson

@techolsy Exactly. The more people speak up and say no the better. At Tuta we will continue to fight against Chat Control.
in reply to Tuta

What's the likelihood of getting struck down in court (ECHR, perhaps?) as unconstitutional?

I'm holding out hope that if it gets hit hard enough with the ban-hammer, that'll set a precedent that prevents future attempts.

in reply to Tuta

We all need to keep fighting against this sinister invasion of our privacy
in reply to marshun

@marshun Thanks for speaking up! At Tuta, we will also continue to.
in reply to Tuta

dude.............. Why did you guys think the EU was a good idea
in reply to Tuta

are you going to be quiet about its approval now? What changed?
