π£ Attention all custom ROM users and advocates for digital rights! π£
Google's Play Integrity is limiting access to certain functionalities and applications for those using custom operating systems. This is a direct attack on the open-source community and a step towards further consolidating Google's monopoly in the mobile ecosystem.
The European Commission is aware of the situation, but has deemed it a low priority: europarl.europa.eu/doceo/documβ¦
It's time for us to take action and show Google and the EU how much we care about this issue! π₯

Let's work together to protect our digital rights and the open source community! #StopGoogleMonopoly #CustomROMs #DigitalRights #OpenSource #PlayIntegrity #EU

Yes, I mend this fav as a thank you @debby for clarifying my terrible doubts.
#learningQuestion
Why would anyone use #googlePlaStore if there is the @fdroidorg APP repository?
I mean, you reset your #android cellPhone, deny all evil google questions, install #fDroid and you are free and good to go!

I'm in dire need of a cellphone, even if it isn't smart, but #handy anyway, as it is my bridge to the internet.
I'm in the middle of no where and the handy is located on sort of cellTower in 5m high in a specific 8x20cm space where there is quite good connection for the antenna.
I only have #googleMaps activated, the rest is blocked or uninstalled.
@fdroidorg has the #auroraStore #APP to emulate access to specific playStore APP's.
I use #ADB #SCRCPY

The beauty of free software, to me, is that it enables everyone to optimize the software for their ideal workflow. Being able to customize and tailor the technology to suit my specific needs and preferences is incredibly empowering.
Rather than being locked into a one-size-fits-all smartphone experience, I can pick and choose the tools and platforms that work best for me. Whether that's a lightweight mobile router, a versatile laptop, or a compact single-board computer - the flexibility of free and open-source software allows me to create a setup that is perfectly aligned with how I like to work.

It's great that you've found a way to stay connected while off the grid! Using a basic phone with just Google Maps activated is a smart approach to minimize your digital footprint. And the F-Droid and Aurora Store are a clever solution for accessing specific Play Store apps without relying on the full Google ecosystem.

I am not able to register with my #customRom #LineageOS #Android #Phone
Support tells me, that they do not support "rooted devices" (mine is not even rooted). Other reviews note that even locking the bootloader is not working.

I appreciate your perspective! The idea of forking Android to create a new project is certainly intriguing. However, there are several important considerations.
First, forking Android could lead to compatibility issues, particularly with existing camera drivers and other hardware integrations specifically designed for the platform. This would create a significant workload for developers, who would need to rewrite or adapt a considerable amount of existing software to function with the new fork. Instead of spreading our community's efforts thin, why not focus on enhancing the existing software that can benefit everyone?
Additionally, we must consider the human resources required. Building a new operating system from scratch demands not only coding expertise but also strong connections with hardware manufacturers and carriers. These relationships are crucial.

Google and Alphabet initially launched Android with a vision of openness and accessibility. However, over time, their focus has shifted, leaving many of us feeling disconnected from those original ideals. As consumers, we have the power to choose better alternatives.
Iβm currently exploring options like the #uConsole, #Pilt, and #PinePhone, which I find very promising. While itβs clear that many arenβt ready to fully embrace #Linux phones yet, there is significant potential in #LinuxMobile.
Letβs channel the energy into projects that can truly make a difference, rather than reinventing the wheel. Together, we can advocate for a more open mobile ecosystem! β¨
