Has anyone transferred their number away from Google Voice? If so, where to (USA) — and how much does it cost you? I still use my Google Voice number, primarily for my side project (lots of calls and texts from reporters), so can’t lose it… just don’t know where best to transfer it to without spending an arm and a leg.

I am already pissed off one can not disable automatic download of updates, one can disable the updates app completely, but I would prefer to manually check for updates and review available update before downloading not to completely disable updates
then after applying updates it takes ages "optimizing apps" see this screenshot, only 8 optimized apps out of 35 and it has taken 19 minutes already and in the meantime the phone is very slow and overheated :(

Since @calyxos has resolved it's issues and has published current versions again, I've flashed my #FP4 which is running #Android 16 now and is back on OTA updates.

next in my digital self reliance journey. Notes. I was using google keep, and i'd like to switch to something I own.
Tried nextcloud notes, gets about 90% there. The web UI is fine, but the mobile experience isnt great.
Blinko showed promise, ran it for a few weeks and found it to be a little finnicky, and no mobile app. I was using it via a web app on my phone and it turned out to be a bit flaky.
So now I'm trying Notesnook. Which shows a lot of promise so far.
Anyone out there have suggestions of other apps i should look at?

I was never on twitter, nor Facebook, insta etc. Deleted WhatsApp the day zuck bought it. Got rid of all the Microsoft that I could which is, I hope, all gone (LinkedIn, GitHub, teams); haven’t had to use their poxy OS or browser since I retired. But google? It’s everywhere. Maps, YouTube, docs, mail. So hard.
I tried de-googling in the past, installing LineageOS on my smartphone, only to find out that without GoogleEngine I was not able to install my banking and other security-critical apps. Has the situation changed in the mean time, and is it possible to run common banking, health and identification apps without Google Play and GoogleEngine? #degoogle

Happy #DigitalIndependance Day to those celebrating here in Canada. The 1st Sunday of the month is when we celebrate #DeGoogle efforts or start thinking about switching personal apps to more private and/or #OpenSource options.
Here's an update of where I am in this transition. Some things to keep in mind while reviewing my choices: 1. I'm #Retired , therefore don't have to worry about work integration. 2. I'm lazy, therefore it's taking me longer to DeGoogle .
For me Google Free or deGoogled means getting rid of their services and Android (including OpenAndroid). I am proudly and eagerly waiting for my Jolla J2 (2026) phone.
Mail, calendar, contacts and photos are already on private servers.

"Some family and friends" usage type. Option of "move to my hardware, you still maintain it" preferred. Co-op or such preferred.
