In a related topic, I just had a conversation with a colleague today that started spouting off how Trump sympathizers wouldn't admit that the economy is doing great because that's what the Dems say .... come on really, people can't even believe their lived experience anymore, and they're seemingly not even able to realize that a booming stock market is actually a sign of a disastrous "economy" and a massive indicator of inequality.

And I know some people like that as well. Their own lifestyle hasn't been affected in any way, and they think everything is going great. In their mind, the only problem is that the orange man exists, and if they can get rid of him everything would go back to normal.
The "their own lifestyle hasn't been affected in any way" is the part that confuses me ... this person's life has been affected by the poor economy, I've had those conversations with them outside this context ... the Cognitive dissonance is simply astounding because "orange man bad" "lesser of two evils" "the end of democracy" <insert talking point here> etc
@lps it the capacity people have for doing mental gymnastics to avoid having to engage with reality will never cease to amaze me. I wonder what it will take for liberals to finally accept that their system is failing.
