I just don't get how after doing interviews on what people want, that THIS is what you've been working on for the last year? A search that doesn't work?

And you can't even login to your own instance?!?!

Wtf?

in reply to PeerTube

Thanks for creating this beta app! I am running iPadOS & iOS 18.2 (beta mode). I can test out how the app functions on iPad Pro 13 & iPhone 16 Pro Max. Thanks for creating this!
in reply to PeerTube

snif l'instance de mon compte n'apparaît pas dans la recherche de plateformes (tedomum)
in reply to Joanna :emacs: :autismgold: (She/her, They/them)

@riyaco Oui c'est pour passer la validation des stores, on a dû limiter les instances dans l'appli. Mais on prévoit d'étendre tout ça au fur à mesure, avec potentiellement une version "débridée" sur FDroid.
in reply to PeerTube

Hi. Just wondering if we’re supposed to be able to login to our own accounts? Is it just local account only at the moment?
in reply to PeerTube

Hi, I'm currently testing it on Android, although I cannot find our self-hosted instance (video.gamerstavern.online), how can we add it?

It it's of any help, it's indexed in Sepia Search too ( sepiasearch.org/search?search=… )

in reply to The Innkeeper

@innkeeper I'm having that issue with fediverse.tv, that's an important server for Spanish speakers, well, that's my opinion lol.
in reply to DanieruOtakuBoy

@danieruotakuboy @innkeeper Hi, we'll progressively add other instances. We (unfortunately) limited the list for the first release in order to pass store validations. We also plan to release an "unlocked" app on F-Droid.
in reply to PeerTube

¡PeerTube sacó una app (en versión beta) de su plataforma de vídeos bajo software de código abierto!

Hora de testear 😎

in reply to PeerTube

😵‍💫 you do not even consider f-droid?

Apple, Google or apk?? Really, is that it??

#freeSoftware

in reply to PeerTube

This entry was edited (1 week ago)
in reply to Inuit

@inuit @FreeTube Merci pour le rapport de bug ! Et non malheureusement il n'est pas prévu de s'abonner sans compte
in reply to PeerTube

whoaaaaa this is hype!
About time lol! It looks really nice!
in reply to PeerTube

is it open source? I can't find the link to the repo anywhere.
in reply to RiQuY (Ricardo-Stryki)

@RiQuY
We'll share everything once it's ready!

The app will be free and open source, as everything we make!
@peertube

in reply to PeerTube

Thanks for that ! That was really missing and can really help students (and people) accessing free contents ! 👍

However, I can't find this instance:
tube-sciences-technologies.app…

Actually, I don't even know if I'm looking for it in the right place in the app...

Moreover, I try to manage my profile. I didn't find the place to put my name, instance, password etc.

Thanks again for that great work. 😉

in reply to Cyril I. 🧮📐

@nicolay_lilicre Hi, we'll progressively add other instances. We (unfortunately) limited the list for the first release in order to pass store validations. We also plan to release an "unlocked" app on F-Droid. And the logged-in account related features will be available in the following months :)
in reply to PeerTube

I don't understand the "progressively add other instances" part. If there's just a dialog box to have the user set the instance, how would this be something Google or Apple would scrutinize? I can totally see them scrutinizing instances that are added in to the app itself, but allowing all instances via dialog, I don't see how that would be scrutinized since it's no different than a browser's address bar or any other fediverse software that does nothing until you punch in an instance for it to connect to.
in reply to Kinetix

@kinetix @nicolay_lilicre I agree with you, so I think we'll add this custom bar soon but it's still a risk because store validation doesn't always follow a "logical" approach: big web browsers may have more rights than a small new app.
in reply to PeerTube

be sure to test on the slowest, crappiest internet connections!
in reply to PeerTube

the form goes to a black screen where it looks like loading stalled. I tried three browsers, Firefox-based and Chromium. The response was the same on all three.
in reply to Acin on .art

@shadowfals
Hi! Did you try to disable all your browser extensions ?

It's working fine on my side!
@peertube

in reply to Booteille

@booteille
Yes, I tried with all extensions removed or disabled. The browser shows a progress bar for the page that stalls. The page remains blank.

It's okay. I'm sure other Peertube watchers will volunteer.

in reply to Acin on .art

@shadowfals Okay!

Can you tell us which browser (and version) you're using? And which Operating System (e.g: Windows, Linux, MacOS) and its version, too ?

Thanks!

in reply to PeerTube

I'm sorry but this is horrible. It's obvious that the user experience isn't the priority because if it was then connecting to ones own instance would have been the first thing you added.

This is nothing more then a glorified search tool that doesn't even work that well. I couldn't find a single video from my own collection.

I can't believe that THIS is the direction that you're headed in. Especially after having a year to work on it.

I really hope this isn't all there is to it.

in reply to PeerTube

it was fun to find my employer's instance almost immediately after using the search bar. Looking at the feedback so far it does seem strange not to be able to find other instances directly by their hostname/url
in reply to PeerTube

Tried to login to our instance of bonn.video, does not work. I think that’s what most admins are expecting first, so they can tell their users the good news. But this is now a showstopper. We will wait.
in reply to PeerTube

@PeerTube is it possible to connect to a personal instance or only the one's that are showcased in discovery.

I see a sepia account is created but can't figure out how to add a custom instance:(

However I just wanted to say congrats to everyone involved, it will surely make a massive difference in peertube adoption!

in reply to LPS

@lps@social.trom.tf oh, I should have read the other comments... well anyway the discovery focus of the beta works great, and playback is flawless .. awesome progress:)
@LPS
in reply to lps

@lps@social.trom.tf this may be a bigger issue, but I hope at one point users will be able to help with our input and "boost" videos so they could more easily be discovered/shared by some sort of fediverse -wide "trending" feature.
@LPS
in reply to PeerTube

very frustrating that the first priority here wasn’t making it possible to log into an instance, or at least manually add your favorites. Trying to be optimistic here but this preview is unusable for me (literally none of the instances I watch videos from are here), and seems like it’s taking a very “walled garden” approach that feels antithetical to the whole point of the federated net
in reply to EngiQueering

@engiqueering We understand your frustration. An "unlocked" app will be available on F-Droid, and the logged-in account features will also be available in the following months :)
in reply to PeerTube

yes, will the unlocked iOS version come out alongside the unlocked android version?
in reply to EngiQueering

@engiqueering Is there an alternative store on iOS like F-Droid for Android? (I'm not the dev of the application, so I'm not an expert of the iOS ecosystem :) )
in reply to PeerTube

No, apple devices are required to use the managed app store, however an iOS app was promised last year (joinpeertube.org/news/peertube…)

I know several people who *want* to use peertube regularly, but the lack of a mobile app is a barrier to entry. Currently there *no* iOS peertube client but several Android ones (Thorium, P2Play, etc), it is a serious problem for adoption that half the mobile market has no native app

in reply to EngiQueering

@engiqueering Sorry I misunderstood you. Yes, the iOS version of the app is planned and we already have a working beta (as you can see on framaforms.org/peertube-mobile…). We're currently experiencing issues with the App Store validation unfortunately...
in reply to PeerTube

I've been working with the beta and have very much been enjoying it. I hope you get the App Store validation resolved, I'm glad to know the full iOS release is still in the works 👍
in reply to PeerTube

I just submitted the form with all the things I had issues with. It needs a lot of improvement, but it's still a good start in my opinion. What works best is the video player itself, the entire rest of the app should undergo a major overhaul in my opinion.
in reply to PeerTube

I can't believe how beautiful and intuitive this app looks. It’ll be a total revolution for the fediverse once it's ready!
in reply to PeerTube

Don't forget, instead of commenting, rather fill out the Feedback form. It's the best place to share your thoughs and make change.
in reply to PeerTube

Hi! My instance isn’t showing up. Do I need to enable a configuration option! Thanks!
in reply to LPS

@lps @alton Thanks for the update. That’s unfortunate. Hope it gets added soon.
in reply to alton

@alton @lps Hi, we'll progressively add other instances. We (unfortunately) limited the list for the first release in order to pass store validations. We also plan to release an "unlocked" app on F-Droid.

LPS reshared this.

in reply to PeerTube

@PeerTube @alton that makes sense, thanks for the details. I think most users that are interested in the full unlocked version likely use #fdroid

Is there perhaps a sneaky way you could tell users within the app downloaded from the play store that the"awesome" version is available on fdroid? ;)

in reply to PeerTube

@alton @lps Makes sense. Will you have to check off and validate every instance to be allowed on the App Store? Guessing on each instance the usual stuff will be restricted.
in reply to alton

@alton @lps We're not sure yet, it's the reason why we're progressing slowly :)

@m33 @EighthLayer

Hi!
It's just a local account right now (that's what we meant by mentioning "Features related to logged-in accounts" in the limitations.

But it's planned and coming ;)

in reply to PeerTube

@m33 Okay no worries. I thought that may be the case, but wanted to check. Thanks for your reply! 👍

@pp44 @Mrfunkedude

Thanks!

Indeed log in & selecting instances are a must, and are planned.

Log in is WIP.

On instances : unfortunately, Google's and Apple's selection methods are very strict, random, and other fediverse apps have suffered from it.

We have had to start the beta publishing with a very limited selection of instances, as we are a new developer in their eyes.

We plan to add those freedoms after being cleared, through updates (and, obviously, with the future F-droid repo)

in reply to PeerTube

I'm a little confused. Are you saying that you HAD to present the app to Google and Apple as a search tool for only a handful of instances to get approval for further development?

And this prevented you from working on a Log In?

@pp44

@PP44
in reply to Mr. Funk E. Dude

@Mrfunkedude @pp44

No, these are two separate topics.

The limited number of instances is because Google and Apple's store are very touchy about the content of new apps from new devs, and we want to get though the first publication process.

The log in is not in the beta test release because we are working on it and plan to add it in the -near- future.

LPS reshared this.

in reply to PeerTube

probably the biggest feature immediately missing is the ability to manually add instances. That makes it unusable to me, unfortunately. Looking forward to seeing it improve.
in reply to hex

@Hex I agree 100%. As it stands the mobile browser experience is better then what they are showing us today. Which seems to be nothing more then a search engine that only searches select instances. I couldn't find my instance or any of the 267 videos I have on it.

Very disappointed.

@hex
in reply to Mr. Funk E. Dude

@Mrfunkedude @Hex We'll progressively add other instances. We (unfortunately) limited the list for the first release in order to pass store validations. We also plan to release an "unlocked" app on F-Droid.
in reply to PeerTube

@Hex will there be a point that the user can add instances themselves?
@hex
in reply to Mr. Funk E. Dude

@Mrfunkedude @Hex Yes we'll try to add this feature but we're taking it slow, app verification for this kind of application is a little bit "touchy"
Unknown parent

PeerTube
@pp44 @ana Yes F-Droid support is planned :)
in reply to PeerTube

Not sure how this is considered Beta when one can’t even login to their own instance. Not sure what this app would be trying to accomplish without that being there.
in reply to Kinetix

@kinetix Will be available soon but gathering feedback and bugs at stage point is very valuable for us 😊
in reply to PeerTube

Is anyone familiar with how #Owncast allowed users to verify themselves for chat via another #fediverse accounts?

I have a distinct feeling that most users will have no interest in actually joining a peertube instance if they only want to comment on videos, create playlists. They could simply subscribe from Mastodon and this would remove the "what is an instance? This is too complicated " that we heard adnausem about Mastodon.

@dansup please help, you make amazing apps.

in reply to lps

@dansup also please don't release this to the Playstore or iOs before the hardcore fans give input and help fine-tune it .. if mainstream users of Youtube apps try this and get confused, they won't come back:
in reply to lps

@dansup see what #freetube is doing as an app, it's super concise and easy to use, all added features are in tabs or submenus, only basic usage is on the main page. Maybe it could be used/forked and updated to suit #peertube ?
in reply to PeerTube

An iOS app means soon enough also a tvOS app too? I’d love to stop having to airplay stuff to my TV from my phone 😭
