It took me some moments to figure out that this is an Android launcher. Nice. I guess it will be on droid at some point.
in reply to solrize

It's already on F-Droid if you meant that.
in reply to Eldbogi

I usually just search for "fossify" and they all come up.
in reply to Zier

Yeah I did that and found plenty of Fossify apps but not the launcher. I also tried to update the repositories and search again but to no avail.

I also searched Duckduckgo and the F-Droid website but did not find it like that either.

in reply to Eldbogi

You have to add the IzzyOnDroid repo to F-droid, it has more up to date Fossify apps.

Ahh I see. I'm not using that so that's why I didn't see it, thanks for the heads up :-)

So cool, thanks to all the contributors for this suite of tools!

It didn't happen with SimpleMobileTools but it might happen with Fossify:

A Custom ROM that replaces the stock apps with this suite would be just a wonderful idea! I'd love to see this happen. If anyone wants to collaborate on such an idea, let me know.

They would need to fix the SMS app first (lots and lots of bugs, not the least of which is that it likes to split MMS group chats up into separate 1 on 1 threads with every single participant as soon as you reply to the group)

Thats a setting you can change, and not a bug but the intentional default behavior because MMS is much more expensive than SMS in many parts of the world
in reply to theshatterstone54

They actually did that with the SimplePhone. Last time I looked the pages were down but I know I archived them on the wayback machine.

They made lots of promises, including that a downloadable ROM would be available, the whole thing quickly crashed and burned.

Reddit had some pretty extensive threads about it. The whole thing seemed like a grift (it was) and convinced me to dump all their apps.

Anyway, if this is something you want to do you could check those threads, I know people linked to the phone they were using (from Alibaba) and the source code was on Codeberg iirc.

I didn't realise (or more likely I forgot) that Fossify forked the Simple Mobile apps.
in reply to mnnwvn

It was. Fossify is now a suite, forked from the "Simple Mobile Tools" apps suite, after it was sold to ZipoApps. You can check the discussion thread here:

github.com/SimpleMobileTools/G…

in reply to mnnwvn

Yes. "Simple Mobile Tools" the makers of all "simple" apps weee bought by ZipoApps a while ago and made propietary so some people forked all their apps and called them Fossify.
in reply to GolfNovemberUniform

I tried it and it's pretty simple and nice. If it gets swipe up gesture for folders and an option to run the first app on tap on the folder, and custom icons, I can finally switch from my old Nova setup.

I downloaded it but I'll just watch for updates for now. First thing I tried, I wasn't able to do.

I tried to put a folder of apps on the quick bar (or whatever it's called) at the bottom of the screen.

It defaults to phone, messages, browser, play store, and camera. I tried putting phone and messages in a folder and it would only let me do that if it was actually on the home screen. Even doing that and trying to drag it into the bar didn't work.

I'm still glad for this and hope it improves, I just can't use it yet.

Edit: looks like it's already a logged issue: github.com/FossifyOrg/Launcher…

I'll also keep an eye on it. I really like it's simplicity, but not allowing me to resize my weather widget to fill the screen horizontally is a deal killer.

The positioning of the icons I can work around, but asymmetric widgets? No way.

I finally replaced all of the proprietary default apps with fossify ones, sadly they lack a few nice features (the keyboard doesnt have auto-correct or suggestions).

Fossify is great. I replaced some stupid anti-privacy GApps with them.

I recommend Lawnchair. I'm currently using LineageOS so my launcher is trebuchet. Unfortunately los don't package it separately.

Been using lawnchair for years but there's some things I wish it had to make it perfect. Namely, I want to be able to sort the app drawer by most used.
in reply to jol

Just put your most used apps on the second desktop. It's not perfect but it works.
in reply to jol

I tried the latest beta version and the global search is quite buggy. Also doesnt have searxng support ¯_(ツ)_/¯ . But it looks good.

I think fossify launcher has more scope cause it can integrate all of it's other applications like files, clock, calendar, etc.

Open source android is looking super neat rn.

in reply to Oblique Obscurantist

KISS and Fossify Launcher use very different approaches. This one is more like Pixel Launcher.
in reply to Oblique Obscurantist

I'm a big fan of KISS as well, I still haven't found something as clutter-free and fast yet.

That's one of my favorite features of Nova launcher, along with getting rid of the google assistant stuff and the google search bar.
in reply to Clay_pidgin

Thanks, but i didn't like Nova, even though i don't know anymore, why.
in reply to MonkderVierte

Oh I wasn't making a recommendation, sorry I wasn't clear. I was trying to agree that those are desirable features.

Neo Launcher supports that, but has no new builds since 2022, though development is ongoing
in reply to blue lion

They are rewriting Neo Launcher. Some alpha builds are available for testers right now, but yeah, it will take time to get to stable.
in reply to GolfNovemberUniform

Nice surprise, I didn't expect that
